What a lot of miserable old buggers some of you are!

I’ll post then run for the hills ???

Just reading through threads this morning and left asking ‘is it me?’

An example, someone comes up with an idea they are really keen on and at least half the posters rain on their parade. Or someone is asking for advice and off some of us go just talking about ourselves and ignoring the OP’s request. Reminds me of those ‘friends’ (ex-friends) who monopolise the conversation.

Then there’s those who seem to think you and on the downward side of the hill after you hit 70 and are getting rid of ‘stuff’ from their lives, presumably in expectation of shuffling off this mortal coil in the not too distance future. Now I’m not a hoarder by any means and anything that wasn’t beautiful, useful or had sentimental value was ditched along the way even when I was young. So what is their point now?

Then there’s the old sparring partners who’ve been getting digs (and sometimes ‘slings and arrows’) at a particular poster who they fell out with in 1066 and seem to live for the chance to twist the knife.

And of course, extremely irritating, those who don’t read the thread and other posts and say exactly what I’ve just said as if they had just had the most amazing idea. And even more irritating those who comment on that post ‘that’s a great idea why didn’t someone else think if thst?’ (they did - me ?) making it a double whammy. Grrrr...

Then, there those with a listening ear, a bit of common sense and, above all, logic ....thank god.

I am not always a GOW , but having an emojit might just offer a warning to others that someone is, for the time being, in GOW mode.

They used to put this down to PMT but many of us will be past that now. So GOW fits the bill .
grin

You can stand down, it was me. I got told off yesterday because I suggested a 70 year old might not want to be reminded of the austerity.

kittylester Thu 09-Nov-17 09:37:04

You're not one Harri!

I don't think we should have an emoji - I would be happy to call myself a GOW but I'd get really upset if anyone else called me one!

On the other hand......think of the fun we could have lobbing them about when someone upsets us!! I vote for a GOW emoji!!

merlotgran Thu 09-Nov-17 09:42:53

And we'll need one of these to fire them off!

paddyann Thu 09-Nov-17 09:44:41

I sometimes wonder if the age group is much much older than me...some have attitudes that are quite frankly stuck in the victorian era.Times change ..we cant stop the years rolling past and to live with the attitudes you had 50 or 60 or more years ago is counter productive.I also dont understand the constant criticism of the young...were you never young? Did you never make mistakes? The walk away from your family ones irritate me beyond belief.Maybe because my kids took a lot of years and miscarriages and tears before I managed two....and I'll be their mother until I or they die .I could NEVER walk away from family because of some of the trifling issues other folk here do .Some of you are real hard hearted Hannahs..or think you should be the top of priorities when they have lives of their own ...the same as we had .We are on the edge of their lives not the centre and thats how its meant to be .Of course ...I'm perfect ...lol

Jalima1108 Thu 09-Nov-17 09:59:25

Some of you are real hard hearted Hannahs
But not the ones on this thread paddyann !!

and the ones who need a GOW emoji are the least likely to realise it.

kittylester Thu 09-Nov-17 10:07:32

This is in danger of getting philosophical! grin

Jalima1108 Thu 09-Nov-17 10:08:21

is that the shit aiming at the fan merlotgran?

gillybob Thu 09-Nov-17 10:23:17

I recognise myself as a GW (notice I took out the O).

I hate being a misery guts and I really didn't used to be. I think perhaps I am just a victim of my very hard paper round. hmm

Jalima1108 Thu 09-Nov-17 10:24:11

Call it 'letting off steam' gillybob

merlotgran Thu 09-Nov-17 10:32:17

Knowing my aim, Jalima, I'd miss. grin

ffinnochio Thu 09-Nov-17 10:34:22

Grumpy Old Woman sounds so drab and old fashioned. Much rather be a POW - pissed-off woman.
Probably a bit sweary for some. hmm

ffinnochio Thu 09-Nov-17 10:36:52

I’d love a POW emoji!

merlotgran Thu 09-Nov-17 10:39:35

This is how I picture some of the grumpies grin

ffinnochio Thu 09-Nov-17 10:44:34

? POW.

#foundone

POGS Thu 09-Nov-17 10:47:42

So now I have posted on the thread does that mean I am let off as being seen as a GOW por favor.

I don't mean out of Merlots cannon! grin

sunseeker Thu 09-Nov-17 10:54:01

I'd vote for a POW emoji! Of course everyone knows I am practically perfect with no faults but just very occasionally I do feel like a POW! grin

grumppa Thu 09-Nov-17 10:58:31

"No doubt the men on GN will soon be here to defend themselves and tell us that they are always positive, optimistic and helpful in a non-partisan way."

Very well put, Jalima. I couldn't have expressed it better myself. My Gransnet name is of course entirely ironical.

I spent the 60s studying then working as a House doctor on 72 hour days, then as a GP. Oh! And I got married and bought a house sometime during them. I’m still working PT and when I’m not, I’ll feel grumpy if I want to!
It’s a habit by now!

Nelliemoser Thu 09-Nov-17 11:25:13

Here is grumpy. I am related to one of them!
(I could not resist the likeness. )

Galen Thu 09-Nov-17 11:27:11

nellie try googling the llama song!

gillybob Thu 09-Nov-17 11:27:21

I thought I would share this photograph of me taken recently. It was taken when I was in a particularly good mood.

kittylester Thu 09-Nov-17 12:21:35

I spent the 60s in terror that something exciting was going to happen and Id have to join in! shock

I remember a party in the 60s in London. It was a very groovy affair in a huge mansion of a place in St James's Square. The colleague who'd invited me was a friend of the girl whose parents were housekeeper and butler there - I think she'd nicked the key when she knew the house would be empty shock. Anyway, there we all were, sitting on the floor in a dark room, lit only by candlelight (the power was switched off) and spliffs were being passed around. I am embarrassed to admit (and I was embarrassed then too) that I passed the spliff on without trying it, thanking God for the dark room so no-one noticed what a coward goody two shoes I was grin

In the 60s I was in a bit of a tight clinch with some chap and I was worried he would try and run his fingers through my hair, as I was wearing a rather fetching wig. ?
