Putting the clocks back

Whilst we get an extra hours sleep on Sunday, spare a thought for the National Trust Volunteers who work tirelessly through the night to move the stones back 1 hour at various stone circles around the country side. This is done twice a year to make sure the stones align correctly with the sun.

And no-one ever notices these unsung heroes grin

Grandma70s Sat 28-Oct-17 09:22:02

I get cross when people talk about getting an extra hour’s sleep. Being a raving insomniac, I always wake at about 4a.m. Now that will be 3a.m. It’s just an extra hour of being awake. Hate these time changes, so unnecessary.

M0nica Sat 28-Oct-17 09:32:43

And make constant adjustments during the rest of the year as some of those pesky stone circles will run slow grin

Luckygirl Sat 28-Oct-17 09:44:43

I hate it too! Suddenly it feels like winter. sad

Luckygirl Sat 28-Oct-17 09:46:07

As for those poor poor NT folk - my heart is bleeding! grin grin

Thinking at 6 yesterday evening that it's going to be like at 5 next week, I thought as I always do at this time of year: it's just Not Right!! Then a few uncharitable thoughts about Scottish farmers enter my mind..

Another factoid I never knew about MawBroon ?

rockgran Sat 28-Oct-17 10:27:15

I quite like it - more cosy evenings in doing hobbies. moon

Jalima1108 Sat 28-Oct-17 11:02:13

I will tell DH - he thinks they should be putting Stonehenge back together as (we think) it was originally!

Jalima1108 Sat 28-Oct-17 11:03:35

Yippee - I can use the tumble dryer without feeling guilty. The washing never dries outside in the winter unless it is a really blowy day.

Thanks for a good laugh, MawBroon.

I really don't mind whether I'm on Greenwich time or Central European time but I really wish I could stay on the same time all year. It takes a week to 10 days each time for my body clock to adapt to these silly hour changes.

Teetime Sat 28-Oct-17 11:21:50

Well they needn't move them on my account I hate this messing about with time and count down relentlessly till shortest day so I can watch the evenings start pulling out again- is it 20th Dec? Makes it a short day on the golf course too.

Anniebach Sat 28-Oct-17 12:03:27

Wish clocks could stay the same, no need to change them, takes my body clock days to adjust and I hate early dark evenings

Bellanonna Sat 28-Oct-17 12:09:19

I hate the earlier dark evenings too as I don’t drive in the dark now. I love it when the evenings start getting noticeably lighter again, some time soon after X**s.

gillybob Sat 28-Oct-17 12:30:11

I hate this time of year . Dark when I go to work, dark in my office. (needs a light all year round) and dark when I get home . It's like being a bloomin' mole .

Granny23 Sat 28-Oct-17 12:50:10

Be creative Gillybob e.g. work 4 hours in the early morning and again 4 hours early evening when it is dark anyway and have your freetime say 11.00 till 15.00.

grannyticktock Sat 28-Oct-17 13:32:54

I hate this clock change and love the spring one. I'm always impatient for the next thing (next meal, next bedtime, next getting-up) and I don't like having to wait longer. This change takes me about a week to adjust to, whereas the spring one I can absorb within a day or so.

hildajenniJ Sat 28-Oct-17 16:21:04

My SinL would like us to adopt Zulu time all year round. Apparently we are in the Zulu time zone hmm I had to look it up because I had no idea what that was. It appears that it is the military term for GMT!

gma Sat 28-Oct-17 17:18:23

I read the following on The internet this week! It’s a quote from a Native American.....”Only a white man would cut 2” off the top of his blanket and sew it on the bottom in order to make it 2” longer” How true is that!

Grannyknot Sat 28-Oct-17 17:22:01

gma grin

Nelliemoser Sat 28-Oct-17 18:14:12

With the clocks and which way they should be moved in spring or autumn is a nmenomic.

Spring forward. Fall (autumn) back.
Quite helpful I have been uncertain at times .
I like this post, it is just full of crazy British spelling
Autumn and Mnenomic. in one sentence. The Americans must despair of us. wink

gillybob Sat 28-Oct-17 18:15:41

I wish I could granny23 but I need to work the "usual" hours to fit in with the phone calls, deliveries etc. Dark days make me feel quite miserable or as DH says "more miserable than normal" hmm

Jalima1108 Sat 28-Oct-17 18:27:03

Vitamin D gillybob and go outside to eat your lunch.
