My OH has a ghost in his bed!

OH and I have separate rooms because of his stentorian snoring and my insomnia. The other day, as he was going up to bed, he announced that he was off to join the ghost. I asked what he meant and he said that he frequently lies in bed and hears somebody breathing next to him! He doesn't seem at all concerned about it but it sounds quite alarming to me. The old house next door to us is reputed to be haunted . It's now in such disrepair that I joked about their ghost moving to our place for a bit more comfort, but I am actually quite unsure what to do. Any advice?

Ooo-er! Is this a Halloween joke?

I've certainly experienced this too. I just assumed that somehow I'm hearing my own breathing in a distant sort of way. Maybe he is too?

Well, I don't know. If he doesn't want to be disturbed by the breathing spectre, then he should respectfully say that he sleeps there now, and would they kindly leave him in peace.
My DD and family have recently moved into an 18th century house which is reputedly haunted. DGS 1 had been sleeping in his room for a few nights when his bed shook and he felt someone touch him. He thought it was his brother, but when he turned round nobody was there. My DD told him that if it happened again he should say something similar to the above.
Like your OH, my grandson was not in the least perturbed about it. They have lived in old properties as long as he can remember.

NotTooOld--- No, this is a genuine post, not a Halloween spoof.

Sorry, meant to add that it doesn't happen all the time so I don't think it can be a kind of reflection of his own breathing. It's weird.

You could ask a priest to come in to exorcise any spirits.
It should work although they could come back.

(I am being serious)

MissAdventure Tue 24-Oct-17 19:25:29

Its a succubus..

Jalima1108 Tue 24-Oct-17 19:29:29

I had to look that up MissAdventure shock

I must have led a very sheltered life!

MissAdventure Tue 24-Oct-17 19:32:35

grin I'm full of surprises. Surprised myself with that one! Remembered from when I had a real interest in the occult.

POGS Tue 24-Oct-17 19:47:03

DH always says he feels the ghost of our daughter's cat running across his bed. The cat died about 15 years ago! He only seems to be half joking.

lemongrove Tue 24-Oct-17 22:32:09

Breathing, cats running across beds, beds shaking, etc will all be part of the time you are just about to drop off to sleep, which is a weird half asleep half awake time and the brain isn’t processing rational thought.Don’t worry about it.?

grannyactivist Tue 24-Oct-17 22:34:25

I have several times heard breathing in this way as I've been dropping off to sleep - only to realise that it was actually my own! hmm

Grandma2213 Wed 25-Oct-17 00:56:48

Yes I've heard my own breathing and also a constant banging which I've discovered is my heartbeat. I suppose we should worry if we don't hear them!! wink

DS who lives with me often has strange experiences which he has to share with me unfortunately, usually in the middle of the night. The latest was that he had a vision of a triangle with an eye inside . This apparently is the 'Third Eye' which we are all supposed to have in the middle of our forehead and is linked with enlightenment, intuition, potential etc if we can use it. He googled all this on his phone before he shared it.

The strange thing was that earlier in the day I had been watching an episode of the 'X Files' which I had recorded and it was about the Third Eye . He was not in the house at the time, nor did I mention it. I hope he is not tuning into my thoughts. I would rather keep those to myself!!!

Have that a lot myself, feel the bed go down one side first of all, keep thinking it is my husband then I remember he is in a nursing home. Quite worried me at first but our home is a bit busy with things, had someone come in that was researching a book and he said at one side of my room there is a vortex and it is like spaghetti junction with so much coming and going. Never been bothered though, only one time when a knife went across the room and another time was annoying as trying to do washing but the dial on the washing machine just kept on spinning around.
Don't worry about the dead though,it's the living you have too watch

Hynogogic hallucinations? Normal, but there are some fun things here, love it. ?☠?

MissAdventure Wed 25-Oct-17 10:07:10

Its a great time of the year to discuss 'things that go bump in the night'
Something that unsettles me is when the hangers in my large wardrobe jingle in the middle of the night. hmm

Lindylou57 Wed 25-Oct-17 10:15:00

Oh madmum38 I often felt the other side of the bed go down and it freaked me out. One night I yelled out' For Gods sake sod off and leave me alone!' Has never happened since. Weird.

damewithaname Wed 25-Oct-17 10:25:39

Ghosts?

Not now. Not ever.

Losing his mind...now that's more of a reality grin

W11girl Wed 25-Oct-17 10:42:40

Have you thought, as he is a snorer (my husband is a snorer- epic proportions), he may well be hearing himself breathing.

strawberrinan Wed 25-Oct-17 11:31:34

Ghosts don’t exist. Don’t pay someone to wave sage around your house. The most rational explanation is usually the correct one.

Sheilasue Wed 25-Oct-17 12:11:18

Sounds like the ghosts a. Heavy breather. ?

Ronnie Wed 25-Oct-17 12:37:35

Could it be your breathing he is hearing though the wall?

mywaldren Wed 25-Oct-17 12:40:57

I.ve had "experiances" too but don.t have any answers.
