?Sarah Apparently he kissed it ("traditional to kiss your first catch") and it dived into his mouth. The poor thing must have been gasping for water and thought it had found some. The man was also gasping for breath but was saved by paramedics. I don't suppose the fish survived..

We get irritated that the London news is almost always the same as the national news. We do not get proper local news at all. We watch it when we are away and find that in other regions local news is reported.

I listen to Local Radio & Local news on TV, I rarely watch National News. I do read a daily Newspaper.

Regarding the "fatberg" it will be turned into "bio fuel" not sent to Landfill

We do have BBC Wales news but national news always give London news and doesn't interest me

BBC nonsense! They have lost the plot and just do not understand what they should be doing.

I must admit, I do wonder about some of the BBC items which purport to be news. They can be interesting in their own right, but are they news? I suspect the BBC is making financial cuts by recycling articles from other parts of the corporation, using it to fill space.

My local BBC news often doesn't get updated now from Fri evening to Monday morning and also contains non-local news - more cost-saving, probably.

I always assume if the news is trivial that nothing serious has happened. ATM I breathe a sigh of relef that D Trump hasn't declared war or pressed the nuclear button!

I listen to radio 4, seems to have more analysis and a bit less trivia.

I.m with pollyperkins here and assume nothing worse has happened - naive perhaps as we all know that hot news gets 'buried' at appropriate times by the government when they have to announce something that won't be popular. Perhaps the announcement of another Donald Trump terrifying action might be found on page six in a stamp sized article while the front page is reserved for knickers. Incidentally - and trivially - I have grown to love high leg big pants as there is no VPL , they are silky smooth and give a much better silhouette than my drawer full of high leg bikini briefs which now make my lower half look like two car tyres stacked up. And yes - the BBC is now a travesty of its former self; I put the radio on and invariably switch it off again and listen to my ipod.

And anyway, the answer is that we are wearing big pants because we want to !! Next !!

Silly news stories are published to distract us from what is really happening in the world. It's our version of Aldous Huxley's, Soma. Instead of medicating us, the media is used as a soporific so that we don't ask awkward questions or demand to know what is really going on.

Interesting you should mention bio-fuel, legs55 cousins in Scotland turn old cooking oil into bio-fuel on their farm but in addition do some further anaerobic process which makes the waste material from the process suitable to be spread on fields as a non stinky alternative to muck-spreading and the sheep or cattle are able to graze the land much sooner than after traditional spraying (slurry??) win win. They get the oil from McDonalds, chippies etc around the country.

And when the media can't think of anything sensible to write about, having exhausted drivel about DT, HW et al, they turn to Gransnet.... DM, anyone?
