Sorry its late in the day!

Happy birthday Jingle , hope you have had a fantastic day with lots of cake.

I agree, kitty. Some members join with a kind of preconceived template they expect all members to fit.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 18:21:28

It's not the slightest like joining your local WI. And being upset and saying so isn't the same as telling the WI at the second meeting they are getting it all wrong. I've seen some horrible examples where new posters have had a really mean response from the 'established' posters. I'm glad that you don't mean new members are unwelcome kitty but it often feels like it . How long before a new member can feel upset/ offended?

ffinnochio Sat 07-Oct-17 18:43:50

Why not barrel in. It’s straightforward. Second guessing is impossible.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 18:52:29

Search me ffin but some people think they have more rights on this forum than others

Baggs Sat 07-Oct-17 18:56:21

I'm all for barrelling in too. But you have to not mind people responding in kind with equal brusqueness. And you have to remember that the responders have no idea and can have no idea of your sensitivities. Why should they? How could they? Also they are quite likely not to know if a poster is new. I see new usernames every day, new to me that is. I've no idea if they're new to the site and you can't tell unless they mention it.

One can learn some internet forum toughness. I say this because I have done just that without even trying. My Gransnet-poster-provoked sensitivities are orders of magnitude less now than they were when I first started posting. Hopefully some people might find that reassuring smile

Just a thought , but if we GNers have to sign in to see any posts, will Jings be able to read any of this? Including the well meant birthday greetings.

Grannyknot Sat 07-Oct-17 19:02:51

Bevan there's logging in, there are screenshots, there's sitting next to someone who has logged in so you can read to your heart's content, there's copy and paste and email!

Registering and logging in - to any site - means naught.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:03:47

The examples I was referring to were when the poster said s/he was new and was unkindly replued to - relationship threads

BBbevan Sat 07-Oct-17 19:05:19

O K thanks Granyknot I am not at all au fait with technicalities.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:05:41

Anyone can see anything we post - it's just that you have to be a member to post - which Jingle clearly is as she is posting so I don't understand how she's banned.

Baggs Sat 07-Oct-17 19:22:45

She certainly was banned.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:25:10

Well she isn't is she, she's posting? confused

Baggs Sat 07-Oct-17 19:26:05

Well, people seem to think it's her, which is not quite the same thing as knowing.

Baggs Sat 07-Oct-17 19:26:43

And 'was' is past tense.

Cherrytree59 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:29:21

wine smile

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:29:36

I think she's made it clear from the posts. Or is it someone not banned pretending to be her to cause mischief ? Still confused or she's been unbanned - or whatever the word is.

merlotgran Sat 07-Oct-17 19:36:54

Put your wooden spoon away, maryeliza54.

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 19:39:00

I rather think Notme has the wooden spoon - she posted did she not ? And others responded.

kittylester Sat 07-Oct-17 19:42:26

I agree with baggs to an extent. The late lamented greatnan scared me rigid to begin with but wouldn't now!

Grannyknot Sat 07-Oct-17 19:49:26

Bevan I didn't mean to sound abrupt smile

lemongrove Sat 07-Oct-17 19:55:08

Hello folks! Jalima and myself are still here, J has been busy
And I needed to change names for a very good reason, as the threads are on FB, and staying as R could have caused problems.I have never changed my posting style or claimed to be a newbie, so most will guess, but it wasn’t something I was wanting to make a big thing of.I have managed to tell some posters by pm but couldn’t obviously ,tell all.
Thank you for missing me ?x

lemongrove Sat 07-Oct-17 19:56:20

And yes, it’s time that Jingl returned.??

maryeliza54 Sat 07-Oct-17 20:00:56

But she has hasn't she?

kittylester Sat 07-Oct-17 20:05:38

But what is your point maryeliza?

annsixty Sat 07-Oct-17 20:10:57

You had me fooled lemongrove but that isn't difficult.
Anyone else may have done, I never think of anyone changing names
