Baby eye colour change

I never knew babies' eyes could change colour!
Last Saturday I saw my grandson's eyes in the sun and they are now an amber or honey colour - they started off identical to his mother's, hazel.
I looked it up online and there are lots of sites about it.
Seems very strange to me, even though I've seen kittens' eyes change.

Madeline had a gap in her iris, quite rare I think.

When I gave birth to our first baby, at 8 months, after an extremely difficult labour -- haemorrhage etc-- my immediate thoughts were on our new daughter, only 5.5 lbs, receiving oxygen, and being 'warmed up'. Delirious that she was healthy and whole, I asked the midwife, who had been with me throughout, what colour her eyes were. Her reply made me laugh out loud "They're blue, yer daft b****r, they always are". Not sure at what point her eyes changed to dark brown

I'm half Italian and have inherited the dark hair and eyes of my mother but the very pale skin of my blonde haired blue eyed father. My husband has blue eyes and reddish hair. One of my own offspring is very Italian looking the other is a blue eyed blonde.
