Baby eye colour change

I'm half Italian and have inherited the dark hair and eyes of my mother but the very pale skin of my blonde haired blue eyed father. My husband has blue eyes and reddish hair. One of my own offspring is very Italian looking the other is a blue eyed blonde.

When I gave birth to our first baby, at 8 months, after an extremely difficult labour -- haemorrhage etc-- my immediate thoughts were on our new daughter, only 5.5 lbs, receiving oxygen, and being 'warmed up'. Delirious that she was healthy and whole, I asked the midwife, who had been with me throughout, what colour her eyes were. Her reply made me laugh out loud "They're blue, yer daft b****r, they always are". Not sure at what point her eyes changed to dark brown

Welshwife I wonder how my DD's eye colour can be so literally cut in half with the top half one colour and the bottom another? I get all the blendings and levels of dominance, etc., but not that.

DH and I both have green eyes but son has brown . X has brown but our last child has pale blue ? can`t understand it !!

At my grammar school you had to choose arts or science based A levels - if you did arts - English, history etc you had to do a compulsory double science lesson once a week - all very interesting stuff - basic genetics came into that - also genetic diseases etc.

Hazel are a mixture and I think you will find they can ve either more brown or more blue - a sort of mutation. But like all things strange things can happen.

My daughter has one brown eye and one that is half brown and half grey. She is apparently one in a million - and we always told her that as a child if anyone noticed - very special. She is very much still one in a million but rarely comments on it unless someone has just noticed which can be very amusing because they often start to comment and then realise they are being quite personal so grind to a halt. I think we succeeded in making her think she is a very special - in a good way

Yes seaside - my mum had hazel eyes and my dad brown but my brother had blue. (Mine are brown)

How interesting.Both DH and I have blue eyes, we have two sons one has hazel eyes like his grandma, the other son blue.According to Welsh wife this is not possible, anybody else have this in their family ?

My boys both have hazel-ish eyes but they were blue at birth.

My girls both have dark brown eyes and they both had dark slate blue eyes at birth which changed over the next few months.

Hybrids - that is the reason - the brown eyed people have one blue and one brown gene.

Eye colour is genetic and if a person is blue eyed can only pass on blue genes as the have two blue ones themselves. However a brown eyed person can have two brown genes or a brown and blue and pass on either. The brown gene is dominant.
Two blue eyed parents can only have blue eyed children - but brown eyes in just one parent can produce either colour in a child.
Genetics - very interesting! Curly hair is dominant too - as is brown over fair.

my sisters and I ,all four of us had different coloured eyes ,one hazel ,one green,one grey and one blue ,Dad had grey eyes and mum had blue.My daughter had blue eyes for several months that changed to a wonderful charcoal grey and then finished up brown when she was around 5, just like her dad ,her daughter had the charcoal grey to begin with ,until she was 4 or 5 then they went brown ,though some days I'm not sure what colour they are ,depends on the light .My son has always had blue eyes

Talking of children's eye colour both my husband and I have brown eyes, as did my mum and dad and my mother-in-law. Only father-in-law had blue/grey eyes yet my eldest daughter has blue/grey eyes and my youngest daughter has greeny/blue eyes?. My son, however, has brown eyes! Weird eh?

One of my other grandsons is mixed race, and his hair was straight until he was about 5, then went curly - but I don't remember his eyes ever being blue.

Yes my sons eyes were deep blue, but changed to deep brown in a few weeks. Just like his fathers!

All my babies had two blue-eyed parents, stayed blue of course.
But why have I never even heard of this?
