Obviously incapable of making decisions !! Bit of a rant!!

I have been struggling with a cough from the dark side for the last few weeks. I saw my GP last week and got steroids and an inhaler but its not made a jot of difference.

I took some cough medicine at the weekend and it did allow me to stop coughing long enough to grab a little sleep ( something that's been sadly lacking !!).

I went to buy more cough medicine this morning but the pharmacist after interrogating quizzing me refused to sell it to me. NOT because of a medication clash but because and I quote' it won't help'!!

Now I know I need to go back to my GP ( the first available apt is on the 25th!!) and I am aware I obviously have an infection and I KNOW that the cough medicine wont cure me BUT it helps me get through some of the symptoms until I can see my GP.

When did the pharmacist get to be made arbiter of my decisions? Surely, if I have all the info ( am hopefully not mentally impaired) and am doing all I can I should be allowed to purchase over the counter medicine ( placebo or not !).

Plainly not !!

I do truly appreciate the advice but shouldn't the final decision be down to me ? Or am I being totally unreasonable?

I make my own cough medicine with fresh lemon juice ,runny honey and glycerin and a bit of hot water.. Eases a cough pretty quickly.

Pholcodeine is quite effective on a niggling cough.
