Can you name ten things

That you like about yourself
Physical attributes, or personality traits? I asked for ten because its hard to stick to three when it comes to songs or heartthrobs; but can everyone count ten reasons to feel good about yourself?

KatyK Wed 20-Sept-17 18:21:11

My DH has informed me that I am 'well organised' smile

M0nica Wed 20-Sept-17 06:45:09

cassandra what makes your list 'masculine'? Surely these are all the attributes of a confident person?

With the possible exception of driving, these are attributes that most of my female relatives had, going back several generations. Likewise my friends - and where I knew them their mothers as well.

Are there really many people who would think any of them gender-specific? Still less when attributed to females of the species, are not normally considered admirable.

Learned helplessness is an attribute few women can afford the luxury of cultivating and intensely irritating when they do.

1. I don't see things as problems, they're challenges.
2. I embrace challenges.
3. I don't give up on anything.
4. I give myself a little bit of praise when I succeed in any challenge, I couldn't bake for years, now I can and I get an amazing feeling being able to produce nice things for my family. Now I need to master crocheting!
5. 90% of the time I can remain calm and reasonable in any situation at home and at work.
6. I work hard at home for dc, dh and work hard at work.
7. I like my hair and skin.
8. I like that my teenage dd can talk to me about anything that worries her.
9. I train hard physically.
10. I am honest in everything.

Ten is rather a lot. Good hair, eyes, strong teeth despite their appearance, better skin than I deserve, I hope I'm kind, a good listener, can keep a secret, mostly co-operative and helpful, can be relied on in a crisis.
Ah, I'm persistent and pay attention to detail. So, that is ten things but I can't count.

Happy-go-lucky, always singing and dancing, not phased by what goes on around me (social media etc) charitable, do my best not to judge people. Am not beautiful on the outside, but might be on the inside due to my personality traits!! Physically I am still slim at 65, my hair and nails are good and I like to wear clothes bordering on the trendy but in-keeping with my age. Yes definitely happy in my own skin as they say !!

cassandra264 Mon 18-Sept-17 22:48:51

morgana it is quite difficult to list positive masculine traits as these, when attributed to females of the species, are not normally considered admirable. But here goes:

1.Always the first to get up and put the rubbish out when it is bin day
2.pay local tradesmen's bills on time so have reasonably good reputation in this regard
3.good at writing formal letters of complaint on behalf of others to get results
4.if properly prepared will (if pressed to do so) speak up (briefly!) at meetings to support local causes
5.always mow the grass
6.mostly drive the car even on long journeys and in strange places
7.will not hesitate to report criminal and damaging behaviour personally witnessed to police or other appropriate authority.
8. check out the fine detail of insurance policies before signing on the dotted line
9.tell the nuisance caller on the telephone where to get off
10. Walk on the side of the pavement nearest the road to protect a weaker or younger companion.

But I'm rubbish at using a Black and Decker.....

These days the young ones are told it I important to love yourself, if you do not, no other person will. In group sessions they are told to stand in front of a mirror and repeatedly say" I love myself". My oldest son did that one day and his grandmother caught him, she was absolutely horrified at the thought and said he was far too up himself.
The things I like about myself are
my legs
my back
my eyes
my hair
my honestly
my support for others
I am hard working
Tenacious
organised
slightly OCD

As I wrote is what I like, others may not agree at all.

Thank you! There isn't anything, anywhere in the thread that suggested anyone was a trumpet blower. smile

DanniRae Mon 18-Sept-17 21:08:47

I (hope) I am:
A good mum
Funny
Thoughtful
A good listener
Generous
A good cook
Kind
A good host
A good friend
Quite intelligent

I also found this very difficult and feel weird putting this out there but you did ask!

pollyperkins Mon 18-Sept-17 19:25:51

I asked DH if he could think of 10 good things about me and he said 100s ! But did not elucidate

pollyperkins Mon 18-Sept-17 19:21:33

I find this difficult, not out of modesty but more from lack of self esteem. So I'll try - it's probably a good exercise psychologially.
1. Nice legs especially ankles according to DH
2. Forearms arent too bad but getting wrinkly now
3. I dont swear
4. I try to be kind to others but not always good at it
5. Funny (haha not peculiar) according to DC ie sense of humour
6. Fairly intelligent
7. Can be witty sometimes as in quick repostes
8. Honest and reliable
9. Faithful and considerate to DH
10. Can sing a bit

rentawitch Mon 18-Sept-17 19:01:02

Hmm... hair, shoulders, sense of humour, intelligence, voice, laid backness, friendliness, openness, resourcefulness, reliability. And i hated writing that.

MissAdventure Mon 18-Sept-17 18:47:09

Probably to have a think, kitty. smile

kittylester Mon 18-Sept-17 18:36:11

NannyKasey Mon 18-Sept-17 18:26:23

radicalnan grin

My list
(hopefully) a good mother (they are both in their 20s and they don't hate me so probably OK with that one grin)
A besotted Nanny to my Fabulous DGDs
Not afraid of change
A survivor
Loyal
Honest
Reliable
Friendly
Always there for friends if needed
Will always buy a round in the pub

Persistentdonor Mon 18-Sept-17 18:11:41

About 30 years ago I had such trouble trying to come up with 3 assets, I asked my son. His answer has stayed with me: "You're good fun, a good Mum,..... (pause,) and someone to talk to." I'll take that.

But I can add I am loyal, honest, trustworthy, friendly and reliable , plus I have a wide and ready smile.

Lastly, one of my greatest accolades. A friend once announced at a gathering that I am what she termed "an encourager".

Imperfect27 Mon 18-Sept-17 17:20:40

Radicalnan grin Yes, very naughty indeed by the sounds of it.

Caro1954 Mon 18-Sept-17 17:09:10

Easier to name ten faults.
I'm prone to laziness
I'm a bit of a scatter brain
I'm over sensitive
I'm getting fatter
I'm mathematically challenged
I've got no artistic talent whatsoever
I can be impatient
I'm no good at sport
I keep loosing stuff
I almost always look a bit of a mess.

Suvid Mon 18-Sept-17 15:36:45

New to the site and have enjoyed following it for a few months.
I think you should ask a friend to name the 10 things - it might be different to yours! ?

JaneD3 Mon 18-Sept-17 15:26:44

Love it Radicalnan! You made me laugh out loud.

Rosina Mon 18-Sept-17 15:02:35

English reserve makes me shrink from even thinking about it but I have always felt so strongly that my dear Dad, who had nothing in the world's terms, left me a happy heart and an unconquerable soul. Two wonderful traits to have.

Smithy Mon 18-Sept-17 14:43:53

Beautiful
Slim
Welldressed
Kind
Compassionate
Generous to a fault
Great cook
Great taste in decor and home furnishings
Good listener
Well read
Haha! Probably about half of that list, far be it from me to blow my own trumpet, more the self deprecating type!
