My Turn?

(136 Posts)
grandMattie Sun 10-Sept-17 14:51:17

Having just changed the loo roll for the umpteenth time, it made me wonder why it was always my turn to do so?
It's also my turn to wash the saucepans - DH's domain is "his" dishwasher; I'm not allowed to load it as I do it "wrong"!
But it is also my turn to fold the clean towels, etc. We are both retired. OK he does the bill paying but it is not relentless day to day stuff.
Whinge over! grin

You are not on your own! Same here! Before anyone says leave it and see what happens, I did exactly that withthe lawn in the back garden, it was up to my knees before I had to tackle it myself!!

tigger Mon 11-Sept-17 19:11:31

You just can't help yourself can you Mawbroon (Serkeen's post). What a snide post!!! and whatever happened to "End Of"?

Trixee Mon 11-Sept-17 19:12:47

Well, we hardly use any toilet paper, there is a plastic jug and soap within easy reach of both loos. During the war people were encouraged to 'bottle wash', as hot water for baths was a luxury. DH thinks it's an excellent idea, I am pleased to say.

Trixee Mon 11-Sept-17 19:15:39

Sorry, meant to add, 'use the toilet as a bidet'.

Imperfect27 Mon 11-Sept-17 19:46:48

tigger I don't do 'taking sides'. However, I do think you may have misread / misunderstood the nature of Maw's post to Serkeen, to my mind it was intended to be supportive.

Ah the perils of the written word ...

MawBroon Mon 11-Sept-17 20:41:48

Flipping eck
My post to Serkeen!was entirely sincere and intended to be supportive.
Are you in a parallel universe or what?

tigger Mon 11-Sept-17 20:43:46

Many thanks Imperfect 27 for your post, appreciated but sorry I cannot agree. Personally I feel extremely sorry for the OP who I thought posted a very light hearted Monday morning whinge. She could not have anticipated what eventually followed which developed into an acrimonious exchange of views IMO fuelled by Mawbroon. If Mawbroon has any complaints about my posts, then I would urge her to make a complaint.

MawBroon Mon 11-Sept-17 20:47:02

It should be obvious to anyone who knows Serkeen's OH was in hospital for WEEKS ( if not months) that I am sure she would have given anything to have him home again, loo roll changing duties or not, and there will be others like her who can still have a laugh about their OH's failings while just wishing they had them back to "moan at".

phoenix Mon 11-Sept-17 20:47:23

There seems to be a bit of a trend lately for sort of light hearted OP's to be "jumped" on. sad

tigger Mon 11-Sept-17 20:51:48

Mawbroon, You protest too much!

MawBroon Mon 11-Sept-17 20:53:49

Am I not allowed to protest AT ALL?
One protest surely is allowed?

Shizam Mon 11-Sept-17 21:00:14

I remarked recently that the ONLY person (said in a passive aggressive way) to change loo roll in past 25 years other than me was a female friend staying over. Son, adult by then, claimed he did not know how to! Finally worked it out. I then angsted at how he had put it on the opposite way of how I like it (paper falling outside). Had to stop myself from changing it! Maybe own worst enemy!

Crafting Mon 11-Sept-17 21:46:28

tigger you obviously misunderstood maw's comments to serkeen it was clearly supportive and not in anyway snide. It was a post from someone who knows only to well that to have their DH home after a spell in hospital is worth changing umpteen toilet rolls.

Personally I am very blessed. My DH not only changes the toilet roll always (I never do it as I can't figure out how it goes on the holder blush) but he stacks and empties the dishwasher, makes the bed, takes out the rubbish and cleans the kitchen worktops. I could rent him out for a reasonable fee grin

Hollycat Mon 11-Sept-17 22:21:54

WOW! Awful lot of upset caused by a toilet roll! Just change it, life's too short. Oops, just brought us back to the deceased again! Sorrygrin

tigger Mon 11-Sept-17 22:35:31

On and on and on, can't you just demonstrate a little respect for the OP?

tigger Mon 11-Sept-17 23:21:05

sanctimonious - definition and synonyms

Using the thesaurus
ADJECTIVE SHOWING DISAPPROVAL sanctimonious pronunciation in British English
/ˌsæŋktɪˈməʊniə

used for describing someone who tries to show that they have better moral or religious principles than other people

It's strange how we get into habitual jobs isn't it. And so difficult to change once you do.

and that thing men have about how to stack the dishwasher! I've taken up going over to the dishwasher and rearranging it when he's just done it, so that he can see how exasperating it can be. Although mostly I'm just fine with him doing all the stacking, so it's only once in a while and then he'll laugh! Why don't you put the saucepans in the dishwasher? That's what it's for isn't it? Then you don't have to do those. PS - consider leaving the loo roll and taking in your own roll until he gets the idea. (But only if you both have a sense of humour.) (And you have to nip in smartish if someone visits.)

grandMattie Tue 12-Sept-17 06:53:43

I don't put pans in the dishwasher because they are mostly le creuset, so rust if dishwasher.

grandMattie Tue 12-Sept-17 06:54:07

Washed!

lemongrove Tue 12-Sept-17 09:05:39

When we have people here for a meal, and there is a ton of things to be washed afterwards, I find that I end up washing most of it myself, as all the better china/glassware can't go into the dishwasher, nor can the pans! Talk about making work for myself.?

Imperfect27 Tue 12-Sept-17 09:18:34

On a related (to loo rolls that is) theme ... Loo lid left up or down by DH? Mine is good and it is always in the right place for me - not so ANY other male visitors. Strange that - if anything, you would think they would be better behaved in someone else's house! smile

luluaugust Tue 12-Sept-17 10:18:24

grandmattie you are just suffering from the way the male/female mind works, this has evolved over millions of years. He only wants to take on the big jobs like loading the dishwasher which is a very complex operation?!! this will mean you get left with the slightly less technical job of changing the loo rolls - sorry.

Saggi Tue 12-Sept-17 11:34:46

Has the point been missed here! It was the same for me...every little annoying job had my name on it apparently! All theses things build up when you see the other half sitting in front of the tele 15 hours a day ( not exaggerating ..I kid you not). He used to say that ''well, life isn't fair is it ?"... always said with an accompanying smirk! I quietly explained that life in the world ISN'T fair...and that's why inside your home , when the door shuts on the world ... life MUST be fair! It's all to do with balance. Stop changing the loo roll .. make sure you take a wad of tissues in with you. See how long he lasts. Why DO some women become their husbands' enablers in uselessness and laziness. You make your own burdens ...start unloading them grandMattie.

Sorry tigger but I think you are wrong. There is nothing sanctimonious about maw and she doesn't deserve the bashing she's had on this thread. If you go back to the beginning and read it all through I think you will see that.

tigger Tue 12-Sept-17 12:40:45

I have gone back to the beginning. The OP doesn't deserve the bashing she had.
