I always have some cash in my purse, about £50 perhaps which gradually gets whittled down. I pay for my weekly food shop with a debit card. A plumber will be here this week so I'll pay him in cash.
My MIL (who's now in a nursing home) got her pension every week in cash from the Post Office and we're all surprised (and grateful) that she was never mugged. She'd trot along to her bank which was at the other end of the High Street to make a deposit.
However she was burgled (twice) and they got away with hundreds as she wouldn't listen to our advice to not have large sums in the house. In her head she lived in a different world to the rest of us. Still does.
I need advice for a mutually messy situation
