We have two bathrooms and I tend to always use one and my husband used the other. My toilet paper hangs the 'right' way, ie over the top and he always puts his roll on the other way. I have a constant fight with myself not to change it in his bathroom but sometimes I lose and it gets moved. On next visit he moves it back but never says a word!

How about the myriad real issues of life, such as round or square teabags, milk in first or second, bath or Barth, and what you call your evening meal?
Who says older people aren't up with the crucial issues of the day?

I think yours is the right way of placing it. Have seen the argument for this a few times. Some people just can,t resist though either putting it the other way around as they think it's how it should be ...or for a bit of a joke to wind you up.

I read somewhere that putting the roll so that the end is at the back is a good way to stop young children taking more than necessary. Have two grandchildren to stay next week so I might just turn it round for the duration.

Over the top here. I would never change it anyone's bathroom though, and would feel a bit niggled if a visitor changed mine!

I have no idea which is correct, but I am positive I have read that more gets used when the end is towards the front.

My daughter has an opinion, and I've never noticed she cared before. I sit on the loo changing it from one to the other randomly for fun now!

My mother has the roll hanging to the back. It irritated me when I was a child, and if I changed the roll, I did it the right way. As to the other burning issues - don't care about tea bag shape (prefer loose leaf); milk in second; definitely bath; tea or dinner (depends if there is gravy on it). And the jam goes on first, otherwise the clotted cream ends up an odd texture and the whole thing ends up looking like oozy roadkill.

As one of our friends found when she had her DS and DGSs staying, they had changed the toilet roll from hanging down thus front to their preferred way of down the back. At least one of the children, judging by the differing colours, had clearly had messy hands and this had been transferred to the wall and been hidden by the overhanging tissue until Granny had noticed the stripes on the strip she had pulled off to use. Gruesome eh!?

My mum always said 'down the back' stopped it running away when you pulled but I'm not convinced it makes a difference. I always have mine 'over the top to the front' and at one house had the holder on the wall in front of the toilet as it was the only suitable place and if it was down the back it was too far away to reach! to reach!

I'd quite like mine to actually have paper on it to go either way...why can't people get out a new roll when they've used it down to cardboard!

Over the top. I have had this disagreement with OH but when we had a unit with a toilet roll dispenser in it the only way it would fall easily was my way. A small triump for womankind.x

Upstairs bathroom- at the back as the roll works better that way as it just has a roller thingy but downstairs cloakroom at the front as holder has a stainless steel flap so it has to be at the front to pull against.
However I am obviously the only one who knows the rules as it is always on the wrong way if anyone else changes it.
On this subject have I got the only husband in the world who changes roll when there are at least 30 sheets left on it!!??

I read somewhere that 'over' resulted in less usage. My mean streak came to the fore immediately and that's how it's been in my house ever since.

Apart from which is right and which is wrong, your friend was in YOUR home and shouldn't have changed anything.

The only time I put loo rolls to be pulled from the back, is when toddlers are around. Then when they play with it it doesn't unravel.
