New car

We still do it and the car is now 4 years old! When it was new DH often parked 'badly' on purpose so no one could get near enough to bang their doors into it!

We have had ours since January and I am paranoid about where I park it. DH says I should have a sign saying "plague victims on board - do not approach"! Even the faintest hint of a scratch or stone chip will leap out at me like neon, when no-one else even notices them! I hope it wears off soon, too!

No, it's not just you. I was very careful with our new car to begin with. Not so now we've had it eighteen months!? I'm as blasé as ever about where I park it. It has more power than our old one too, so I overtake with gay abandon (appropriately of course). ??

I've never had a new car, or do you mean new to you ?
My beloved corsa died 3yrs ago. The body work was immaculate despite it's age. I scratched the new one after a few months, and lost the back of the wing mirror in a hedge on a country lane shortly after. I think I've given up on it now

No it's not just you roses! Hadn't had ours long when I parked at the hospice where I volunteer, I hadn't realised the only way out of that space was to reverse back along between two rows of badly parked cars. I panicked, cried all over the receptionist who found a nice maintenance man to reverse it out for me. My old boy to this day has no idea that ever happened and I haven't felt the need to enlighten him!

I've done that when collecting my car from a garage after MOT! - had to ask one of the mechanics to reverse out for me

Thanks...glad it's not just me, but the funny thing is, have never been quite so careful with a new car before now, so maybe an age thing as well.
Eighteen months/four years, haha, I was hoping it would be nearer a few weeks.

My new car never fully recovered from its meeting with the post office van! That was about a year after I got it!

I too have never had a brand new car.

Neither have I. The nearest I got was 'one previous owner'.

Well, it won't be brand new for long, once it gets some dust on it and a few crumbs inside.

Like Nina, I've never had a new car, though at least 10 'new' second hand cars. But think I can imagine the feeling (a bit).
Funnily enough, a neighbour (english) came round today to show us his new Audi - a big monster of a car. He's a big man (physically)) so it suits him. And his wife, who isn't small either.
But I wouldn't dare drive a car like that - terrified I'd get a scratch.

I had a new car last year, not brand new but new to me but very clean inside. Ate a kit Kat outside the car and wiped my feet each time I got in etc, lasted about a week, now full of crap, dog hair, grass and mud, feels more homely couldn't cope with new and clean! When we were young my husband was a groundsman and I worked with racehorses so both cars were full of either grass, oil, mud and machinery or straw, horse poop, mud and leather items, we used to meet in the pub at the end of the day looking a right state! But v happy

Menopaws H is a part time gardener and dosen't drive so it's my car that gets the mud and grass and that unmistakeable damp grass smell when I have to transport his mower

We made the mistake of buying a black car recently. In a world of black cars that was a mistake.

I'm always wandering round supermarket car parks trying to find it by pressing the keyfob, but it's a little sporty car and hides behind bigger ones.

Yesterday I scared an elderly man, by suddenly exclaiming 'Oh! there you are!' -meaning I'd located the car. Unfortunately he just happened to be in the sight line between me and it and he thought I was addressing him.

He did looked very startled. Like a rabbit caught in headlights.

Mine is silver, the other day I was number 3 in a line of 7 silver cars at a red light.

I do love the smell of new cars but haven't had one for many years I have been hankering for a new mini clubman but can't justify the price and anyway I am still very fond of my audi sports I wanted one for years and finally got one it is silver and still looks good.

Anya the last car ( I chose the colour ) was a lovely cherry colour, and easy to find in any car park ( the previous one was silver and a nightmare to find.)
DH and I looked at all the colours we could have for the new car, and between him not liking black, white, navy blue, red, and me not liking any green,
Or very bright blue or silver it only really left one colour, a sort of dark-ish purpley blue.It's lovely, but I have already seen several others just the same, so will very likely lose it in the supermarket car parks after all.

I chose white for our last car; huge mistake - it never looked clean for more than a day. When we had this latest one, DH was a bit precious about it - very keen to steer me towards fisheries where there were proper car parking facilities, rather than let me take up the forest roads full of mud and potholes to my favourite reservoir fishing spots! Well, it had to be christened some time!

My car is silver because it doesn't show the dirt. I can identify it in a car park by the silver glittery aerial ball. I also have other balls to put on according to the season, such as Santa, Easter egg, and witch.
When a car is new I am very careful, but once it gets its first scratch and the newness has worn off I am not so bothered.
My now-ex DH once wrapped a brand new car around a pillar in a dark car park on the day he picked it up. I had to drive it to work for a few days until it went in for repair so I wrote 'My husband did this' in marker pen on the wing! Once it was mended we changed it and never had a blue car again as he had had a mishap in a previous blue one.

I've adopted what I call the "sad git's" style of parking,where I always try to park with an empty space either side of me. The other day I noticed in a very quiet car park,every car was parked like that....

We have always had a new car every two years, love the smell when you drive it out of the showroom. We usually park in the furthest corner of supermarket car park but two years ago returned to find a shopping trolley leaning against passenger door and a dent where it had hit, the car was less than seven days old

Yes Nina I understand, our first date was an old land rover with no back glass and with all the grass cuttings in the back creating a vortex all over me as we drove along, by the time we reached the pub I was covered! My Dad was the same so didn't mind and brushed myself off and got on with it, and it was middle of winter! Must have been love. Actually to this day I still find chainsaws and the like in the car usually with a gallon of two stroke precariously balanced. Wouldn't change a thing TBH

Did people see the story of the guy who crashed and wrote off his £250,000 Ferrari that he'd picked up less than an hour beforehand?
