When we are Brexited.....

In town the other day I couldn't help but notice the number of cafes and bars with tables and chairs out side and I suddenly realised the huge impact them furriners have had on our culture and I now understand where the leavers were coming from.Sitting outside really isn't British. It's been imported from foreign parts. So when we are Brexited I expect to see the end to this sitting outside eating and drinking, which as we all know can lead to all sorts of problems, like a chill on your kidneys, or King Koff same as not wearing a vest in winter.
What do you expect/hope to see the end of after Brexit?

The village church where I live ( and all those churches hereabouts )have large congregations, strangely it's the pubs that have steadily been closing down.grin

The truth is, that nothing will change much about our everyday lives, we will go on doing all the things we usually do.
Wasn't honey still for tea Rupert Brooke, not John Betjeman btw.

We must have Brexited already as the village churches are very busy here and where DGC live! I hadn't noticed we'd left because I can still buy olives in the shops. In fact the church is busy all week now (themed holiday club).
Although I will say that many people worship at the altar of John Lewis and Primark these days on Sundays

There's a thought - an end to Sunday opening?

Teetime Mon 24-Jul-17 09:22:33

Can we have a kidney attached to our pork chops again?

Jalima1108 Mon 24-Jul-17 09:22:42

Yes, some nice pubs have closed and are now private houses
sad

Jalima1108 Mon 24-Jul-17 09:23:53

Thank goodness I had eaten my cornflakes before I read that Teetime

Ana Mon 24-Jul-17 09:33:26

Yes! kidneys.

And bags of giblets in frozen chickens...

rosesarered Mon 24-Jul-17 09:36:12

Oh yes, our cats liked those Ana and they were free! ?

It is Rupert Brooke roses you are quite right. You see that's what happens with these pesky furriners around we get our poets mixed up. Once they've gone we can drop all this Victor Hugo stuff and get back to proper poetry. (There won't be any language teachers anyway so nobody will be speaking anything but English)

Cherrytree59 Mon 24-Jul-17 10:31:57

Well Ryan Air has announced a price reduction some time soon!
So I'm of to Benidorm to watch Corrie
Drink English beer.
Eat my English breakfast and of course a nice big traditional Sunday roast with Yorkshire puds.

They can keep their healthy olives, fresh sardines and vino!

Must have a nice white hankie somewhere,
don't want DH's with a sun burnt bonce smile

whitewave Mon 24-Jul-17 10:51:04

Blimey cherry why bother to go out of this country for your holiday? Or perhaps you are are joking?

I expect you come back with the deepest sun burn possible and wear a sleeveless string top even if it's freezing to show off your sun burngrin

suzied Mon 24-Jul-17 10:57:22

Don't forget your polyester football shirt.

rosesarered Mon 24-Jul-17 12:19:52

Haha Cherry grin but you must point out that you are joking as some on Gransnet can never tell!
What have 'pesky furriners' got to do with mixing up your poets trisher....although a good excuse.grin
Betjemen wasn't into honey, but he did wonder if he dare eat a peach.

Discovered about the current visa situation as it is now for 3rd country citizens. The visa is for all the Schengen countries but it is for one trip - and specific dates need to be given - if you have no friend in the country you are visiting to get you a form locally you can book a night at a hotel on Booking.com and then take a print out of the booking to the Embassy. They are bit dearer than I thought - more like£40.
Of course there may be some arrangement when we leave as we did not need them previously - but at the same time 3rd country people -including those married to a British national - could easily get long duration visas to remain in UK which it is now almost impossible to get.

As to the rape seed oil - seems that rape needs a lot of sprays of I assume insecticide and also fertiliser and this remains in the seeds and therefor the oil - personally I never buy it now because of this although it is thought fit for human consumption. In France it is called Colza. I shall stick to the coconut oil, olive and walnut!

Jalima1108 Mon 24-Jul-17 13:36:33

How can the rapeseed oil I buy be organic if it is sprayed confused

Jalima1108 Mon 24-Jul-17 13:39:49

Ha ha Cherrytree was that you I saw playing bingo round the pool in Benidorm?
And was that your DH shouting at Manuel demanding proper British beer?

We were busy throwing the German towels into the pool - did you see us?

Jalima1108 Mon 24-Jul-17 13:41:46

Well, that's a bit mean charging for visas for holidays. I'll go to visit the koalas instead, free visas.

Elegran Mon 24-Jul-17 13:48:03

But what if Scotland is independent by then and charging more visas? The only koalas you will see in Europe are in Edinburgh (BTW, the joey is almost ready to come out of the pouch and be seen. A litle foot has been spotted sticking out)

Elegran Mon 24-Jul-17 13:48:27

For visas, not more visas!

Jalima1108 Mon 24-Jul-17 14:03:35

Ones in the wild I mean grin
and kangaroos
and crocodiles

The manufacturing of crystal balls will boom - in fact it will become a global concern, bringing billions to the UK.

The world will look on and be in envy of our powers of prediction, but appreciate that the balls might be decidedly faulty. "It's a novelty quirk" stated Richard Cranium, the CEO of Balls Ltd. "People like them because they tend to predict whatever scenario the user wants to occur."

In the meantime, Pessimists UK, a small organisation for a minority of people predicting doom and gloom, wallowing in doom and gloom - nay, hoping fervently for gloomy days ahead, will be banned from public spaces like church halls and community centres. A cross party parliamentary committee deemed the abyss, which follows them everywhere, had become a danger to bystanders. The committee did agree that members of the group should not be denied the freedom to jump into it if they so desired.

trisher Mon 24-Jul-17 14:12:12

But there will probably be a charge for it as allowing free access would not be in keeping with the current policy of grabbing as much as you can from anyone for any reason whatsoever.
