How much will it cost to leave the EU?

Reading so many different figures. £20Billion - £60Billion ????

Apparently we can pay it in installment (generous of them)

So it got me thinking. What could we give the EU as a one off settlement?

I'm thinking on the lines of a few palaces etc. maybe a street or two in London?

What about Scotland or Wales or maybe the North East (with a palace or two to make the money up) ? grin

How about giving them our pot holes
Spain got their roads curtesy of the EU.
Big blue signs everywhere with EU stars.

Why not have people out on the streets with collection buckets. Then those that voted out can fill the buckets. Also agree with Chris Evans and how about throwing in the Top Gear trio as a bonus?

Chewbacca Fri 21-Jul-17 20:24:48

Now that's a good idea Barmy. It would be a bit like a second referendum wouldn't it? If all the collection buckets only collected 19p, we'd know that there really was no appetite for leaving the EU. But if they collected more than, say, £7.61 we'd know that there was. I like it!

Reckon the government will have their own collection buckets
labelled Tax smile

Yes but they would have to give it a name like ......suggestions please

Barmyoldbat Fri 21-Jul-17 21:08:54

We will have a vote on the best name

Primrose65 Fri 21-Jul-17 21:16:01

How about "Offshore investment opportunity".

GillT57 Fri 21-Jul-17 21:35:28

I would suggest we give them Michael Gove.....but they would probably waive all our debts and ask that we take him back, some kind of reverse hostage situation! Love the clip by the way!

I commented about this on the Gransnet facebook group and was told to change my meds!!!

I posted my thought at the time ........ It's not a settlement figure. It's a fine. And it's being done because if we said right that's it we're off, up yours they would be in deep dodo because of what we are made to pay in year. We prop the EU up with our mega contribution.

Anyway hopefully here I won't be so rudely treated.

What about the Royal Family they must be worth a bob or two and as a bonus we won't have to pay them or do up Buckingham Palace?

Chewbacca Fri 21-Jul-17 22:42:21

Your opinion is as valid as anyone else's jimmy. smile

Cherrytree59 Fri 21-Jul-17 23:07:53

Divorce or The uncoupling (to quote Brad Pitt & Jennifer Anderson) fund

gillybob Fri 21-Jul-17 23:14:14

Yes well I suggested all the palaces right at the start of the thread costalminder obviously I meant that the royals would be part of the deal grin

gillybob Fri 21-Jul-17 23:15:53

You'll not get anyone rude on these forums Jimmy wink

It's ok Jimmy, if it's a fine it's because we have done something wrong and we can appeal just like I did with my parking ticket. So let's think, reasons for appealing and who would represent us? Do we get legal aid

gillybob Sat 22-Jul-17 09:27:09

That's a good point Barmyoldbat is it a fine, a penalty charge or a divorce settlement ?

We can hardly appeal the the European courts can we?

Chewbacca Sat 22-Jul-17 09:32:39

Why can't we appeal gillybob ? We're still in the EU so why not make use of the Human Rights courts? Damned good idea!

Primrose65 Sat 22-Jul-17 09:46:18

We just popped into the EU quickly for a few years?

gillybob Sat 22-Jul-17 09:49:02

Well they're not gonna be on our side are they? But having said that...

I did successfully appeal 2 parking tickets (one my own and one for my DDiL) so my advice would be to collect evidence, take photographs where possible , make a time line of events and take statements from any witnesses. Always be very polite in all correspondences and log everything accordingly. Finally cross your fingers.

Could just work you know.

gillybob Sat 22-Jul-17 09:50:22

Yes primrose just to see if we liked it and we have decided we don't !

Primrose65 Sat 22-Jul-17 10:00:51

I have some photo's if that helps gillybob and evidence that

I've always purchased a return ticket when travelling to Europe

Surely that shows intent to leave!

Jalima1108 Sat 22-Jul-17 10:36:29

Scotland and N Ireland (although they may ask for a refund on the DUP) but not Wales please as my DGC live there and the EU wouldn't understand what they were saying anyway.
Could Buckingham Palace be moved? It does need refurbishment.

Doesn't Nigel Farage have a penchant for EU citizens of the female sex? We could ship him over with his alleged latest flame?

gillybob Sat 22-Jul-17 10:56:39

As they say in a well know add..... Every little helps (slapping bum emoticon) .

So yes primrose I think we could use your photographs and your old return tickets too.

You know we could be in with a chance here.
