Aside from the virtual cake obviously... grin

It would be really helpful for us to know what you like about Gransnet, and what draws you to the site? Is it the general chatter and social aspect, the advice, the competitions, the word games, the articles, the webchats. If you were to pick your top three (or if you can't think of three then just one will do!) reasons for logging on, or what keeps you coming back, what would they be?

Are you spamming this thread by any chance?

Perhaps if you told me what you mean by that I could tell you if I am doing it.

It has been requested many times to no avail. Sweet pic though Jalima smile

GracesGranMK2 Mon 31-Jul-17 20:22:05

I do not make personal and insulting posts to others

I wonder just how tongue in cheek that comment was made RaR.

Anniebach Mon 31-Jul-17 20:22:37

At the start of this thread .jen said she comes to this forum to discuss with like minded people all these posts on Jen is on about being able to ignore some posters, GG always agrees with Jen, even a pea brain can work out what the hope is,

Tegan2 Mon 31-Jul-17 20:25:00

There are several people who always agree with each other....

rosesarered Mon 31-Jul-17 20:28:46

That is human nature Tegan but calling someone a sad sad person for no reason at all, is why many people are reticent about making any comments.

Jalima1108 Mon 31-Jul-17 20:34:42

A bit like Real Life then Tegan!

or like those nodding dogs you see in the bag of cars: "Oh yes"

rosesarered Mon 31-Jul-17 20:38:02

Churchill! ?

I come on GN because the majority of my friends are like minded so it is always useful to read views and opinions of people who do not share my political/social/belief system. I learn a lot, reflect and sometimes even modify my thinking.

However there are a few posters who bang on a bit about the same thing on almost every thread they post on. I would sometimes like to 'hide' their contributions and I think thought that would be true for a few! grin

Time to take a step back or a deep breath or whatever you prefer to calm this all down a bit - there are many reasons that people come to Gransnet but turning threads into bunfights shouldn't be one of them. So we ask that you please calm it down a little - discuss whatever you like in as spirited a manner as you like, but please let's step away from the back and forth insults and spread a little love (well - you don't need to go that far but you get the drift)

Give up the jat Mohamed hmm

harrigran Tue 01-Aug-17 09:42:22

Well that post did what nobody else could achieve grin

NfkDumpling Tue 01-Aug-17 09:44:51

Now, that's why I could never block any one person's posts. I did see the message deleted by GN ...etc from Mohamed so Roses comment makes perfect sense, but usually I miss them and only get the reply - and it's so infuriating! I could never not see everything! It's up to me as to whether or not I bother to read the whole post, but for it not to be there? Noo!

Norah Tue 01-Aug-17 10:30:02

Well done, mohamed99.

devongirl Tue 01-Aug-17 11:37:55

Well done for saying what?! I'm with *NfkDumpling"

Anniebach Tue 01-Aug-17 12:39:34

Does not only reading posts of like minded posters mean an unwillingness to get out of one's comfort zone ?

GracesGranMK2 Tue 01-Aug-17 12:41:37

Why 'well done mohamed99' Norah?

Imperfect27 Tue 01-Aug-17 12:52:19

I think it is good to be challenged in our thinking - as long as it can be kept civilised. I have learned a lot by reading others' posts and sometimes changed my own opinions in the light of them. There must be many others who have done so too.

I think it is a strength of GN that so many people with an evident passion for many different aspects of life and a depth and variety of so many differing experiences post. It is sometimes uncomfortable when a handful of individuals make it personal, but overall those that have a good point to make usually make it with good sense and good grace.

Norah Tue 01-Aug-17 12:54:09

Mohammed99 unintentionally showed what happens to hiding a post.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 01-Aug-17 14:34:42

Mohammed99 unintentionally showed what happens to hiding a post.

NO HE DIDN'T. If you had Mohammed's post on ignore you would not see it but everyone else would be able to. YOU ARE WRONG don't you read anything before you offer criticism?

Even if you did decide to hide one persons posts you might, in certain threads, wish to see it. A little message appears instead of the post. It says 'You are ignoring this user. Show me the post.' The 'Show me the post' is a link you can click on to see that particular post. All others will still come up as hidden FOR YOU but NOT for anyone else but you can always look at individual ones if you choose to do so.

Your choice to 'hide' does not affect anyone else, they do not know about it and no one else has anyway of knowing about it. Everyone else sees just what they have always seen.

All this has been explained many times now. Why are you continuing to misrepresent it?

Norah Tue 01-Aug-17 15:11:14

Oh my, not criticism, I do not think 'ignore' is a good idea, and I am not alone. I have opinions as do you.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 01-Aug-17 15:21:46

But your opinions are based on false reasoning. You have said you think that everyone would have the persons post hidden if one person chose to use it but that is simply not how the system works.

You are trying to inflict YOUR opinion on other people. It is fine that you don't want and would never use a 'hide' or 'ignore' system; if it existed you would not have. Your posts would look the same as they always have. However, you are saying is that you should decide whether other people should be able to use one or not. If I want it to be available I am not inflicting my opinions on anyone. They may or may not use it as they choose. You do not even want them to be able to decide. Apparently you feel your opinion it of greater worth than anyone else's.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 01-Aug-17 15:35:59

if it existed you would not have
but if it existed you would not have to

Elegran Tue 01-Aug-17 16:27:23

You would still have people who had chosen to ignore all posts by a certain person then seeing a reply, possibly well separated from the one invisible to them, and causing their own mayhem asking for an explanation, or even responding to the reply without knowing what the original post said and confusing everyone else.

Frankly, I don't know whether an ignore option would be good or bad.
