Why do you come to Gransnet?

Aside from the virtual cake obviously... grin

It would be really helpful for us to know what you like about Gransnet, and what draws you to the site? Is it the general chatter and social aspect, the advice, the competitions, the word games, the articles, the webchats. If you were to pick your top three (or if you can't think of three then just one will do!) reasons for logging on, or what keeps you coming back, what would they be?

Personally I'd rather go head-to-head with some on the political threads than listen to some of the sanctimonious clap-trap I've been reading lately.

I came on for intelligent conversation not to listen to old biddies swooning at the odd swear word

So there.

so having alienated the 'more cucumber sandwiches Vicar?' brigade I'll take myself back to RL

DJ you have summed the problem of the political threads up perfectly when you say I come on GN, ..... to discuss politics with like minded people., which is great for you and your like minded people but very boring for everybody else. Preaching to the converted has never really interested me.

I come on GN to discuss politics with other people with an interest in politics who think differently to me. Not to convince them of my views or have them try to hector me into accepting their views, but to treat them, and any party they support with respect and to explore views I do not support and understand the background to those views and those that advocate them.

Bring back jingl

Alima Sun 23-Jul-17 15:49:29

Come on Anya, don't hold back, tell it how it is this because of that fucking fairy sign? ( Actually thought the expression was "more tea vicar" after someone has farted).

Alima Sun 23-Jul-17 15:50:05

Ah, that I do agree with.

Anya Sun 23-Jul-17 15:52:53

Nah! Cucumber sandwiches where I come from Alima grin it's a regional thing I think!

durhamjen Sun 23-Jul-17 15:54:26

I've learnt a lot more about Brexit from like minded people on here than I ever would have done from Brexiteers who tell us to just accept it and go with the flow. In other words, don't rock the boat and leave it all up to Davis and May.

Sorry, Lara. Couldn't help it.

Anya Sun 23-Jul-17 15:56:38

Oh goody! I love these intertwined threads.

Can we make it a three-strander perhaps?

Grannyknot Sun 23-Jul-17 16:12:46

I'm a simple soul and I follow instructions ... the question posed in the OP asked "What do you like" about GN.

Anya Sun 23-Jul-17 16:13:11

Just thinking on....I've been very down the last week or so. But had a couple to PMs from GN friends, like-minded souls which cheered me up.

Then came on this thread and Alima's 'fucking fairy sign' make me LOL

Then read DJ's post which reminded me that in an ever-changing world some things are constant!

So actually think the black dog that's been hounding me for several days has slunk off with its tail between its legs.

Thank you.

That's why GN has its place.

durhamjen Sun 23-Jul-17 16:33:21

Thanks, Anya. It's good to be thought of as constant.
I am pleased if it helps you.
And hope you continue to improve.

Chewbacca Sun 23-Jul-17 16:35:45

Good to hear Anya, and great to see you posting again!

rosesarered Sun 23-Jul-17 16:55:02

Have now read every single post on here.....think that what the majority say about the threads is true, and very obvious that most are avoiding political threads and liking the the informative, supportive and light hearted threads much better.
It makes sense! grin

rosesarered Sun 23-Jul-17 16:56:35

Am amazed at the names of posters that I have never seen before.......do carry on posting on many other threads ( even if you avoid certain ones.) smile

narrowboatnan Sun 23-Jul-17 17:04:01

I confess I only come on here because of the Gransnet Daily emails that I receive. If a subject interest me I read through all the responses and have, occasionally, added my own twopenny worth. I like the ones that make me laugh - the virtual Gransnet Olympics etc. The political posts I tend to just skim through.

Alima Sun 23-Jul-17 17:09:44

Anya I am glad that you feel in a brighter mood now.

Lara To answer your question "why do you keep coming back". To be perfectly honest every time I do look in it is with the great hope that Jingle has been allowed back, if she wants to of course. Can she? I have even logged into the mobile site here to get the emphasis correct. And the answer is.........?

Christinefrance Sun 23-Jul-17 17:15:22

Not another thread deviating on to jbf.

M0nica Sun 23-Jul-17 17:23:43

DJ you really do not get it, do you?

rosesarered Sun 23-Jul-17 17:26:27

grin

Ana Sun 23-Jul-17 17:29:44

Oh, she gets it all right... grin

Riverwalk Sun 23-Jul-17 17:44:42

At the moment we really just wanted to understand what you like most ....

Lara surely you know what we like most - you can tell by the number of 'clicks' on each topic; your advertisers certainly know.

Penstemmon Sun 23-Jul-17 17:45:49

I visit GN every so often. I do so when I am
a) not busy with RL

b) should be busy with RL but am putting off doing something dull!

I quite like the nostalgia threads, political threads(when they debates and not yah boo sucks nah nah nee nah nah).

I do not join in the forum games very often!
I used to do competitions but stopped..not sure why i think I will revisit.
Got to be in it to win it!

Jane10 Sun 23-Jul-17 17:46:42

Well GNHQ. Give us an edit button and a 'like' one. Both would save us a lot of time. They have both been asked for umpteen times.

Maggiemaybe Sun 23-Jul-17 17:46:56

In answer to Lara's question, for me it's the banter, general chat, competitions (more please!) and the book club. I've learnt a lot from the advice threads and articles. Love the comedy spot currently taken by the Argy Bargy, previously by the GN Olympics etc.

It is heartening to see so many new (to me) posters on this thread and to hear how many have been helped in various ways. There's hope for Gransnet yet. It looks as though we might be in for a rebrand anyway.

We sometimes ask our "customers" for the same sort of information GN has in the shape of a questionnaire. The results are not dissimilar.
There are those responders who appear pretty happy with things the way they are, there are those who have a bit of a moan but are not out to cause trouble. Then there are those who make a valid point and need to be listened to because it is important to look after the followers you already have before going off to gather more. Finally there are those - the worst - (luckily rare on GN) who seem to want everything done their way and who incite others.
I'll leave GN to decide how they want to deal with the comments from this microcosm of society!
