Holiday postcards

Sometimes I send postcards to the DGC but not any adults.Usually take the iPad and send messages that way.
Have a lovely holiday Nan, have to arrange another meet up soon??

Some postcards but like you less and less. DGS and now DGD gets one and loves it but he is only 3 ½ and usually involves a picture of an animal etc! His sister is only 6 months so she shares!

I have always sent postcards to our 2 grandchikdren which i have encouraged them to keep ( in a nice nox i bought!). I choose the cards carefully abd enjoy looking for the right ones for them. i write something personal about them and what we have done recently and hope that if(when!) i get confused and forgetful they will remember the good tines we have had together.

We used to send about a dozen, some to the kids, plus close family and friends. I keep all mine with views on them, I`ve got a box going back over 50 years of postcards.

I was going to send some from my current holiday but I haven't seen a single postcard for sale. Although to be fair, SW London isn't exactly a holiday hotspot.

I don't send many but I do belong to a worldwide Postcard exchange group Its got thousands of participants and it's lovely to get a postcard in the post from some far flung place with some nice message on the back when you're not expecting anything but bills to land on the doormat I ve done it for five years now and have throughly enjoyed it I think the rarest country I ve received from is Figi I ve also made some friends and corresponding with a teacher from Bering Island Russia and a magazine writer from Netherlands for some time now, an extension to the exchanges I have become email friends with a few others .....you never know who you will send a card to until you draw a random address or who you ll receive from until someone draws your address It's fun and brightened up my day sometimes

I don't think people send postcards much these days - they never arrive till after the holiday anyway, most just send pictures on Whatsapp which you get instantly.

We used to send loads, but I remember it being a bit of a bind. Now it's just one for each of the DGS. They like getting post addressed just to them and they're usually up on display in their bedrooms for a while. We sent them cards with flamenco dancers with proper lacy skirts from Spain the other week and they went down well (and survived the journey, which was a bonus!).

"The other" grandparents went to Canada this year and sent loads of cards with an ongoing fantasy about what they'd allegedly been up to. "Oh-oh, Grandma (always) fell out of this boat and was swallowed by that whale, but I managed to swim out to them and tickled its tummy till it burped her out", etc. They were hilarious and I wish I'd thought of it!

We use the app Touchcard , it uses your own photos , you type it out and they print and send it. Our grandkids love them.

I also send a postcard a week to a little boy with cancer. I bought a load in bulk and send him one a week to cheer him up through his treatment . Sent about 50 so far :-)

Maggie I usually put all sorts of things on the post cards to DGC, though not quite as OTT as being swallowed by a whale.

We send to immediate family esp GC and also to one or two close friends who always send them to us. Dont bother with friend who never send them .
When I say 'we' I mean 'I' of course. DH has nothing to do with it apart from writing ' Grandad' plus a huge kiss on the GC cards!

We [read me] only send cards to the DGCs and a very old friend. Otherwise, it is yet another form of bragging - I don't do that!
I do, however, try to find the tackiest thing [but tasteful and useful of course ]ever for DS2, who loves my presents. Cardboard Moose head trophy, blowup tulip beer-can holder anyone?

I never send postcards anymore. Too much hassle on a week's holiday to buy postcards then track down stamps and then a post box. Shame really. Send holiday photos and messages on Facebook usually (and it arrives instantly unlike postcards).
I Love nanandgrampy's idea of online postcards though! Is it TouchNote app?

Community Association here had 1500 banded packs of 5 postcards with local views printed up a few years ago as a fundraiser. Think they still have about 1300 packs left-can't give them away. Think the postcard may have had its day.

Always interested to receive cards and find out where people have been. But I'm sensitive enough (I hope) not to go on about holidays especially to those friends who I know cannot afford any but the most modest breaks.
Also a postcard is pne thing but Im not interested in very detailed descriptions of peoples holidays in Christmas newsletters so I never do that!

I have one friend who still sends me a postcard. I was just saying to hubby recently how holiday habits had changed. When I was a child a lot of thought went into buying a present from the resort for all my friends. Mum would choose something i.e. bracelets, a small toys, or rocks, and everyone got the same thing. I can't help wondering if we were showing off as not everyone could afford a holiday in those days.

I do send some, to people I know appreciate them, I love receiving postcards, my Daughter always sends cards, she and her family travel a lot, I enjoy receiving them, I wish more poople would send cards.

I don't really holiday, visits to my DM in Yorkshire (I now live in Devon) & some nice days out. I send a postcard to DGS, like many children he loves getting post with his name on it. DGS2 will have to share as he's only 2 months old now & DGS1 is 7. I do try & find a nice card & put a little message on it

Absolutely. Particularly since I found out that our saucy end of the pier cards have run foul of the EU... now I make it a mission to find and send them before they disappear altogether !

Occasionally send one to grandchildren and sisters children. Only on holidays in the UK though. Think the cost of postage stamps is a factor why many people have stopped sending them as the postcard is usually cheaper than the stamp. Also social media plays it's part. It used to be nice to get these cards though in the past sometimes from people you did,nt see very often with a scribbled message on the back. Saw a TV programme last year ( might have been Melvin Bragg?) retro holidays and it said that many people actually do still send postcards ( not to us now!) but not sure who these people are. We holiday in Cornwall quite often....tons of postcards on sale and people buying them too.

I used to send a few, as you say fewer these days. I always find it a bit galling if I get home before the card is received.
The modern thing is of course to send an image by mobile phone if you're savvy enough to work this out - I'm very hit and miss.
