Dh hasn't noticed...

First must say that I wear dresses or skirts once in a blue moon!

Today, wondering what best to wear in the heat, I put on a lovely loose linen dress I have only ever worn once before, and that was at a dd's wedding (fairly casual but in a hot location) nearly 2 years ago!

He hasn't noticed, or if he has, he hasn't commented.
Not that I'm really surprised. In the past I have been known to comment that he wouldn't notice if I went out topless with my nipples painted green...

feel very lucky .my OH is what my granny would have called passremarkable ,he knows exactly what I've worn and where and when even going back decades! I almost lost the plot with him on Sunday when I tried on a new dress for his opinion ,lovely dress he said ,that colour suits you but you could have shaved your legs before showing me it....thats the legs that were hidden under support tights .His usual tack is asking me to wear something thats been in my wardrobe for years and I'm sure wont fit ,he insists its because he still views me as a 21 year old and thinks I haven't changed ....of course I must imagine the extra 2 stone since we married .Not only would he notice what I have on he'll have me change it half a dozen times .I should say that he is very image conscious and I have to be dragged round shops for clothes buying

He only notices if I am naked! grin

My husband never comments on what I wear. I used to think this was because he didn't notice but it's not true. He just doesn't see the need to tell me I look nice or even ok every day. When he does say an outfit is 'nice' or tells me I look good I know I look really good. If he says he doesn't like something, and this is very rare, it goes straight in the bag for the charity shop.

My oh does not mention anything. In fact if I buy him a new t shirt or casual trousers and put them in his wardrobe he wouldn't notice they are new ! He would be equally likely to due a dirty job in them as his raggy baggy clothes that are just for those very jobs !

i guess i was so lucky.both dh noticed and comlpimented.even in jeans and a blouse i got- you look nice.
sit in his lap???
on the other hand he still sees you as a 21 yearold.that is so sweet

The days of green nipples are long gone but no my husband wouldn't notice or comment what ever I wear but I am comfortable in my jeans and tee shirt so don't mind TBH

rosesarered Tue 20-Jun-17 23:12:21

humbertbear yes, my DH is the same, so if he doesn't comment I know I must look ok.I can only remember three occasions when he has said he doesn't like something I was wearing, and on reflection, he was right. That is in nearly 50 years of marriage, so not bad.

Jalima1108 Tue 20-Jun-17 23:18:23

DH says 'you look nice' even if I don't, I think because he wants to get out through the door without me faffing about changing into something better/more comfortable etc!

I wouldn't like it if he scrutinised what I was wearing and he hasn't a clue what is in the wardrobe except, apparently, it is 'too much'.

Had a 'once in a blue moon' moment today and wore a dress. Can't recall the last time. No comment from Mr C. The hospital receptionist, a shop assistant in M&S and a fellow visitor to some gardens complimented me. Eventually he said 'I guess you do look OK in that'. Good job I have a sense of humour grin.

My DH (The Welsh Blokey) doesn't notice what I wear. I did ask why he never commented, and was given the response 'If you looked like the Crypt Keeper I'd let you know, but you always look lovely to me'. This is from the man who, after a whole afternoon, asked if I'd done something to my hair, I'd only gone from dark brown to blonde!

Nanabilly Wed 21-Jun-17 07:37:33

Reminds me of something a few years ago....hubby was acting strange for a few days. ..just standing directly in front of me ..doing nothing but standing there..... then one night in bed he asked if I had noticed anything different so I said no why???
He said "I shaved my moustache off last weekend and you have not noticed"
???
I never get cross if he does not notice things now .

Nanny123 Wed 21-Jun-17 10:27:34

My DH never comments either. Even when i get my hair done he never comments, but if I bath the dog he notices it as soon as he walks through the front door. He even commented on my blue eyes one (I have hazel eyes) and we have been together about 15 years at that point!!! But despite his "faults" he is a good one.

grandMattie Wed 21-Jun-17 10:39:28

DH said something about what i was wearing today! A first... It is only because it is hot pink and rather floaty. "I noticed the bright colour" was his comment.
One can only hope...

pollyperkins Wed 21-Jun-17 10:41:47

I suppose Im lucky then as when I make an effort he always pays me a compliment. But he can criticise too which is infuriating if I think I look good and he says 'that doesnt really suit you'or similar . I get cross and carry on wearig it but all the pleasure has gone!
And when I say what shall I wear to some do or other and mention the eg blue dress I wore to a wedding a couple of years ago he's no idea what I'm talking about.
Today Im wearing wide white linen trousers (cool, I thought) and a navy and white striped top and I got 'Hello sailor!' Wondering whether to change before venturing out!

yogagran Wed 21-Jun-17 10:43:31

The plus point of having a DH who apparently doesn't notice what you're wearing is that you can get away with buying new clothes without comments!

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 21-Jun-17 10:48:26

Same here. Wore a floaty skirt yesterday. I can't remember the last time I wore a skirt and he never said a word. Now that I come to think about it, I am surprised he didn't think I'd bought something new and mention it for that reason.

pollyperkins Wed 21-Jun-17 10:54:27

I havent got any floaty skirts only a couple of posh dresses. The zip's gone on my one summer skirt (a denim one) so Im stuck with trousers/shorts!

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 21-Jun-17 11:21:47

My floaty skirt is cotton with an elasticated waist, bought from Bon Marche a few years ago to hang as a decoration in my wardrobe. I have 2 pairs of shorts - I can't do up the button on one and the other fall down so have a large safety pin in the waistband. So stylish me! grin

pollyperkins Wed 21-Jun-17 11:36:23

Ha ha - I have two pairs with an extra button added so i can do them up!

Witzend Wed 21-Jun-17 11:38:08

Should have added that I wasn't cross or put out, more like amused, really.
He has so many good points, I can't complain! And he's never once suggested that I really ought to shave my legs, or lose a few pounds..

Bluecat Wed 21-Jun-17 12:13:33

My husband is the Sherlock Holmes of housework and notices every speck of dirt, but wouldn't notice any difference in me if I was wearing a gas mask.

I'm used to it, though.

grandtanteJE65 Wed 21-Jun-17 13:02:21

It's the perennial complaint, isn't it? Very few men do notice what we wear; however, I live the other side of the coin.
My husband started his working life as a window dresser (and yes, he is 100% straight, if you were wondering) so he does notice what I wear and his opinion if I am in doubt is always worth listening to. If he buys me clothes (mainly the underwear he wants to see me in) IT FITS!
Ruddy marvel, ain't he?
The down side is that more than once I have for the sake of peace discarded or not bought something I really wanted because I could not be bothered discussing the matter with him. Also, on the very rare occasions he has given me a present which I did not care for, I can't like other women just assume that he will never notice whether I wear it or not, so have to risk hurting him by saying that it wasn't quite me.
So there are disadvantages of having a DH who notices what one is wearing.

Once when I was about 27 I bought a pair of jeans that fitted my backside so snugly that even my father noticed them, and he was quite definitely the kind of husband and father the rest of you are talking about, so it is possible to get them to notice your clothes.

sarahellenwhitney Wed 21-Jun-17 13:25:41

I am sure where fashion is concerned our DH's take us for granted and do not realise that a little bit of recognition or a compliment goes a long way.sad

Frannytoo Wed 21-Jun-17 13:27:08

My husband never comments on what I wear but my grandsons in their 20s are very observant. Comments like 'I like your new glasses', that's a nice hair cut', and 'what groovy earrings' are common, so there is hope for future generations. My husband does comment on my friends choices etc. which makes his lack of comment difficult to accept.
