I never was very good at interpreting poetry

I caught this morning morning's minion . . . A covering note would have let us know just what the post was about, instead of just posting an excerpt in a vacuum.

Its Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844–89) anya so not exactly modern, let alone postmodernism. One of the earliest modern poems perhaps? I'd call it someone rather drunk on religious and semi-homoerotic fantasy with a liking for extreme vocabulary. But then, it is a long time since I did any lit crit.

well, my pome certainly was not crap
It was This Be The Pome Verse by Philip Larkin whose statue I saw recently.

Larkin is one of my favourite poets ( granted, This Be The Verse is a bit on the angry side, but he had odd parents.)
