new knickers

going through my bedroom cupboards today I found a multi pack of M+S knickers, unopened. gleaming white and pristine. when I took them out of the packet and put them in my knicker drawer, I realised how grey and grotty my old knickers were. so I binned them. then I got to thinking how wonderful new underwear is. and how it's a pleasure to wear brand new underwear, putting a spring in my step and not caring if I get knocked down by a bus, cos not only is my underwear clean, it is also non saggy and beautifully white.
I just love new knickers. is it just me?

When I was seriously ill last year and was rushed in as an emergency , my DM offered to buy me some pants, I was horrified when she bought me white 'granny pants' from ASDA,(I should have asked DD grin) I wore them for a while in the hospital until thankfully DS overcame his squeamishness about handling my clean underwear and brought in the pants that I usually wear (shorts/high leg/bikini definitely NOT white). I still have the 'granny pants' just in case I end up in hospital again

NotTooOld If white bras are too grey I give them a quick steep in black tea to make them more flesh coloured.

Big black drawers every time

SparklyGrandma Thu 01-Jun-17 19:45:18

PatB8 yes, Sloggi are great. Control pants rule.

I always wash whites separately, at a higher temperature and with a fabric whitener sheet, but I've heard that those colour run sheets help whites stay white if you want to throw everything in together.

I might have to get some myself - last time I did a whites load the first thing I spotted when the machine stopped was a pair of bright pink ones bang in the middle...

I confess I have a knicker fetish - bras too blush No matter where I go I always look at the underwear department and have to keep telling myself I don't need any more as I have several drawers full of all colours! I prefer the no VPL ones from M&S or Sainsburys and usually end up wearing the black and nude colours anyway. I don't really like cotton ones though as jeans don't 'slide' up on them that easily - think that's TMI grin

Sloggis maxi control every time. My absolute favourites.

SparklyGrandma Thu 01-Jun-17 11:38:24

I am a Sloggi fan (am I allowed to say that?) also M&S.

White or skin coloured, and YES it does feel good when I have new ones on.

Washing all whites together keeps them white....

If I wear black they have remains of flaky skin on them. Am I the only one with that problem. It looks like dust.

Lilypops - thank you, I have just gone online and ordered one of those m and s bras. I am desperate for a comfortable bra.
HillyN - I feel the same way about VPL and had to laugh at your reason for needing new knickers!

Juggernaut Thu 01-Jun-17 00:20:26

I only wear knickers of any sort if I absolutely have to......I go commando almost all the timesmile
When I do have to cover up, it's black Sloggis for me!

I agree that pants is American for trousers. They also call what we call tights 'pantie-hose' - ugh!

If I had unlimited money, the thing I would have new every day is flannels. I have two, one for above the waist and one for below, and just love the softness of a new one. Even though they are not expensive I still feel I have to get good use out of each one.

I've recently started buying black only bras and knickers. I find white underwear always goes grey. Last year in a vain attempt to buy a well fitting bra I spent a fortune on three white ones. Now they've all gone grey. Any tips on making them white again, anyone?

HillyN Wed 31-May-17 21:49:13

I definitely need to get some new knickers. I wore a skirt (without tights) today for the first time in ages and realised it was mainly my trousers that had been holding them up! I love patterned 'briefs' in bright colours except under white trousers. My Mum always disapproved of black underwear. I never worry about VPL, why would anyone want to look as if they weren't wearing knickers anyway?

Baglet1 Wed 31-May-17 21:13:26

Yes! Only just discovered them. And you can buy them in Waitrose. No more M and S.wink

CrazyDaisy Wed 31-May-17 20:19:01

I remember my Mum calling the big bloomers with elastic at the waist and legs "Passion Killers"!

Lilypops Wed 31-May-17 20:13:33

Knspol, have you looked at M&S smoothing, non padded lace side bra,s ,great under tshirts and so comfy, they really don't show under tshirts , shame they only do white and nude but for Summer ,for me, that's fine

Coppernob Wed 31-May-17 20:05:38

henbane In the past I have bought seam free, wide top knickers from Tesco. They are really comfortable and have worn well - so well in fact that I don't know whether they still make them as I haven't needed to replace them.

Maggiemaybe Wed 31-May-17 17:52:14

I'll join the anti-pantie brigade please. I hate the word. I was once sent some to review and with hindsight I spent so much of the feedback form ranting about the terminology I was never sent anything else. sad

DanniRae Wed 31-May-17 17:04:35

I dislike the word panties too. It sounds so coy somehow. I use knickers or pants.

starlily106 Wed 31-May-17 16:44:38

I really thought I was the only person to use the word 'knickers'. Alima, I'm with you on panties, I absolutely hate that word, my mother always used it, and it made me cringe. I wear either black or white, don't buy coloured ones.

grannybuy Wed 31-May-17 16:39:22

I think pants are trousers in America. They call our 'pants' panties. I'm another who doesn't like that word.

I'm a big fan of flesh/nude coloured knickers. I was introduced to them just before my wedding 36 years ago - I didn't believe then that anyone would see white knickers under a white dress but I went along with the recommended nude ones. A few months later, we went to a wedding & the bride might as well have had her white Knicks on over her dress. Since then, I always opt for nude under light and white dresses & white trousers- white knicks show up particularly well under the latter, as do thongs, which DH refers to as "the rose arch affect"! I recently passed the tip on to my young hairdresser who has been extremely grateful & smug in front of her friends; sporting "no VPL " nude under the tightest of tight white trousers!
