new actors

Depends what you watch. I quite like to see a familiar face these days.

I don't mind providing the storyline is good. Line of Duty top class and you don't see much of Thandie Newton and she was brilliant. Watched Paula last night here's a new actress (or should I say actor ) very good and like the looks of Tom Hughes despite his appalling character

They are such good actors, they are offered good roles, win win for the viewers

Olivia Colman, Maxine Peake, Sarah Lancashire - brilliant actors!! I'll watch any drama they're in!

What about radio, David Mitchell seems to be in everything!

I totally agree, have thought this for a while. I need a break from Vicky McLure (Line of Duty & The Replacement) Morven Christie (The Replacement, The A Word, Grantchester) & Olivia Colemans voice is soooooooooo annoying!

I suppose it's like any other commercial enterprise. The barristers, consultants, dentists, vets, etc., who have the best reviews/success rates are likely to get the most work. I imagine it's the same with actors.

I do think it's rather a shame that, increasingly, those without established acting careers or useful contacts now have very little chance of obtaining regular, good quality work.

My post should say SHOWS not Sows lol ,but i expect people realised that

It isn't just actors that this affects it's the same in many areas of entertainment. Programmes are now made by production companies who are unwilling to take a gamble on unknown performers. In the past the BBC nurtured new talent now it only buys stuff in. It's desperately hard for new talent to break into the entertainment industry. The list of people who had their first breaks through the Beeb is tremendous.

I admire all the actors complained about, especially maxine Peake, Maggie Smith, Nicola and Olivia - why isn't anyone complaining about the small pool of male actors who appear as often.

If you watch Scandi Noir, you'll find the same actors appearing in several dramas. Its even more difficult to place their previous roles at the same time as reading sub titles and knitting.

It would do no harm either to bring in new drama at the same time.
There are hundreds of books on the shelves from new authors just waiting to be televised.
My recent favourite was Apple Tree Yard But then I am drawn to courtroom dramas so for me anything to do with the law and detective ie Brenda gets my interest.

i tend not to watch a great deal of drama on the tele these days - can't concentrate enough on it.
but i do like midsomer murders, lewis and inspector morse/endeavour.
and i like it when established stars appear on these - haven't a clue why but you seem to see them cropping up on all these.
sometimes when you watch a film or maybe another programme [i do watch dramas sometime] you'll see a familiar face and it takes quite a while to find out where you've seen them before - thanks to wikipedia i usually find out!

I'd watch Maxine Peake reading the telephone book!
She was absolutely the right person to play the sexual health worker in '3 Girls', totally believable.

I'm so glad I don't know 3/4 of the people you lovely people are talking about. I decided I didn't want a telly when I moved into my own home 4 years ago because, I was a 'TV addict'...
Thankfully, I have other things to do with my time. However, I do sympathise with your point of view. Actors are like fashion items. Some are just for the times and others are timeless classics.
The 'new fashion' is just around the corner; 'Primark doesn't last My sisters keep threatening to buy me a TV. I really hope they don't.

I think the same about sows whete the same people are in them like Holly Willouby, and Philip Schofield, they are everywhere i love them both, but it does make you wonder how much time they get to spend with their families

I used to like Noel Edmonds deal or no Deal, and always liked him,but i know someone who was a contestant and she says hes horrible
I liked Last Tango in Halifax and love Sarah Lncashire,
Also liked it because it was my home town and i recognised some places

They are such great actresses. When you think Maxine peake started out in dinner ladies, look where she has got too.
Loved line of duty, happy valley another great actress, last tango in Halifax I could go on.
Have to add hinterland BBC wales, watched that on my iPad.

I get fed up seeing Fiona bruce everywhere. Watch the news? She does that. antiques roadshow, she's there. new art programme? She does that too. The BBC always do that & say this person is fantastic etc. etc as they did with Attenborough, when really lots of people could have done it just as well and it would be nice to see new faces

As long as they keep making series as good as Line of Duty I don't care who acts in them but TBH I like most of the actors/ actresses (I still prefer that word) in these series.I'll watch anything with Maxine Peake, Sarah lancashire or Olivia Coleman etc.in as I know I am going to enjoy it.
I think we are very lucky to have such good series made in this country even if some of them are hard to watch- Three Girls broke my heart but being factual it is important we know these things go on.

Angelab I agree. It's also a case of if we put him/her in it it's bound to get viewers. Perhaps they should read this forum.

As for actors agreeing to do ads, I think it probably comes from the mindset of the fragility of employment - you never know when your next job might be or if there will be one, so you take what you can get.
