I send mine to meet his friends in the pub,a couple of nights a week ,then theres Rotary which keeps him busy at least another couple of nights a month plus their lunch once a week ..nothing quite like the house to myself,my music turned up loud while I get on with the housework I dont get done when my other half wants to chat most of the time he's home .We have grandchildren a lot too so its nice to get some time to myself

Yes, my DH still does a bit of work now and again ( ten years after retiring) in truth he has only had a few years with nonworking at all, he says it keeps the little grey cells working, and makes money for holidays.
Otherwise, I use the conservatory like others, look at the garden and watch the birds, I have a cd player and radio and books in there, do crosswords etc.Phone friends also and sometimes blush fall asleep!
He has a study, and enjoys watching a lot of sport on Sky, and he also does more gardening than me.

OH still works but from home! He rarely has to go out for meetings but when he does it's wonderful. He's my best friend and we get on well but I like a bit of solitude sometimes.

Keep your DH working. My DH, mid 70s, still does up to a weeks consultancy work every month, which often requires travel from home, sometimes overseas. I have had two blocks of 4 days to myself recently when he was away on a business trip.

We spend adequate time apart with various hobbies or friends I don't often need 'space' if we are both at home although I spend a lot of time in the garden I suppose.

I also sometimes stop on way home, and park near the sea or in a beautiful country spot. Just for about half an hour.

He's downstairs watching telly, I'm upstairs reading, or vice versa. Or he's in the garden and I'm in the kitchen. When there's just two of you in the house, it's not that hard smile

H can spend hours pottering in his sheds (2, plus the garage) or the garden. Fine, that gives me peace on my own indoors.
If I'm miffed with him I go for a drive and park up over looking the sea.

We've got a sort of conservatory too. I have a comfy chair in a spare bedroom too. I like my window seat in the kitchen but he appears in there now he is retired. When I was visiting Mum, a layby on the way home gave me space so long as I got an internet connection.

I try to be in when Dh is out!! grin

Yes * molly* shed is a good ideagrin
Just before my DH retired I gave him an ultimatum
The garage made in to computer/ music room for him or a conservatory for me.
He said that he needed garage for tools and motorcycle.
He also thought that a conservatory was not a good idea as it would be too cold in winter and too hot in Summer!
The conservatory won.
I love it.
It is some where just to sit in peace, listen to the birds, look out on to the garden .
I read and browse gransnet on a nice comfy chair.
If I didn't have the conservatory then I would definitely consider a Shed
There are so many lovely ones on market and lovely ideas to make them in to a nice chill out space.smile

What do you do when you need a bit of 'me' time away from everyone else? So many of us have partners at home 24/7 now that finding precious time alone is a challenge. Walking used to help when I had some energy but now I'm wondering if a shed with a 'do not disturb' sign is the answer! How do you manage?
