NHS and Education Cuts Gone Mad

Daughter just got letter that her sons education plan assessment has been rejected and she's in bits. He's 5 and half in age but mentally and physically about 1 and half ( he has a missing chromosome ) . He's in school every morning as that was the only way he could get assessed, he has a one to one assistant who is lovely but not equipped to deal with his special needs, he can't get an occupational therapist as the only one for the area is on long term sick and is on a waiting list for speech therapy, which if he ever reaches top of the list will only get third hand as NHS don't have enough to go round. There was no explanation why in the letter, nobody is returning daughters calls and at moment they are both just left in limbo with a feeling nobody cares, is this the Britain we now live in.

All I can think of is for her to get in touch with her local MP. I hope she resolves the situation. Very difficult and upsetting for all concerned.

make sure you vote to get the tories, and their ridiculous cuts that aren;t necessary, out of office in June ,Austerity is ideological and its the poor or disabled and vulnerable who are suffering

This must be a huge worry blondie49. Has your daughter considered an appeal? IPSEA and Contact a Family both offer advice and support along with information. Apologies if you know about them. Many years ago I worked with families caring for children with learning disabilities and many found both organisations really helpful. if you haven't done so would suggest a look at their web sites and a chat via their help lines. I do know how stressful the process is. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

That is just terrible! I was also going to suggest talking to your MP and also ,aye a local County Councillor. I would imagine that your DD has letters from various doctors about the condition of her sone and would suggest she has copies of these available for anyone she does speak to.
Who's department decided on this - does not sound like any expert!

The austerity being imposed on those least able to fight back is wicked and utterly unnecessary. It is ideologically driven.

Your daughter needs to move mountains to get what she wants but I certainly wouldn't let the bastards get me down. Good luck.

That sounds so shocking. I am sorry your DGS is not getting the support he needs. SALT & OT have been extremely difficult to access for a while and since even more cuts LAs do not have the money to compete with private salaries.angry
I hope you have the strength and energy to fight for the resources DGS needs. I endorse seeing your MP/elected council lead for children's services etc. Make a big noise

There should be a clear appeal process... or complaints... and it should be with the letter or a dirction in letter on whee procedure is on line.

Just wanted to say thanks so far for the advice and support, just what was needed yesterday. Looks like today the school is stepping in and getting actual contact , so that's a step in the right direction and also makes daughter feel as if somebody ( who actually knows her son ) is on her side.
