Just heard that Cadbury chocolate factory are dropping the Easter from Easter Eggs. Obviously so that they can sell them to other religions.

IMO this is not right. Easter is a Christian celebration, and this is a Christian country. We celebrate Lent, Easter, Whit Sunday and Christmas as we have always done.

I for one will not be buying Cadbury eggs (now made in America) anymore. This is all about Greed!

OMG are hot cross buns safe?

Eggs and buns sold all year round who cares what they are called, bring me eggs, bring me buns...........I can't wait for Boxing day when the easter eggs hit the shelves.

I am prepared to eat for any religion if I like the taste.

gillybob Wed 05-Apr-17 09:08:54

Definitely won't be buying any EASTER eggs from Tesco then dj.

What's an E egg? grannylyn65 ? is it an Eco Friendly egg?

Asda have lovely little EASTER eggs (from most manufacturers) for 99p which I wouldn't call overpriced.

Have never bought E Eggs on principle as so overpriced, get a small gift instead !!

gillybob Wed 05-Apr-17 07:49:30

I saw a giant cadburys EASTER poster in Asda yesterday so confused

gillybob Wed 05-Apr-17 07:46:47

Totally agree with NanaandGrampy I too will be buying loads of EASTER eggs. Some for the grandchildren and some for extended family and a few of the neighbours children too. Is anyome really offended by Easter Eggs? I mean really?

My grandchildren are currently learning about EASTER at school and DGS (7) came home with a wonderful model he had made of the 3 crosses on the hill. Together with the tomb and the stone (that could be rolled away) . Very clever. He was able to recount the entire story to me too.

As for Eostre I have never heard of it and really have little desire to learn. Oh and I really don't think you have to go to church regularly to be a Christian either. I personally am a non believer for reasons of my own, but I know plenty of people who believe in God and follow Christain values and traditions who do not attend church regularly.

Leave our traditions alone.

paddyann Tue 04-Apr-17 23:46:30

well you learn something new every day....who would ever have believed Theresa May was a christian....more unchristian policies are hard to come by.All this nonsense over chocolate eggs ...beggars belief. Its in the same league as the eegits celebrating the return of their "british" passports...and here was me thinking they were always british ....roll on my scottish one

Cold Tue 04-Apr-17 23:32:22

So this is the event that people are complaining about without really having seen the "offending" poster (there seems to be a pretty big reference to Easter). Is this really the biggest issue for Theresa May as I don't actually understand her problem with it

durhamjen Tue 04-Apr-17 22:49:09

Not only did May think it important to talk about Easter eggs when she was in Saudi, but she talked about the horrors of Syria. No sense of irony.
Our links with Saudi are being investigated by Scotland Yard. Quick, lets complain about the National Trust.
I condemn Syria, but at least I do it from a better standpoint than May does.
Liam Fox is trying to drum up trade in the Philippines, talking to Duterte who encourages civilians to kill drug addicts.
So that's okay, but not Cadbury's not mentioning Easter on the National Trust eggs.
All's well with the world. I can see The Last Leg now.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 04-Apr-17 22:22:19

Or liars.

GracesGranMK2 Tue 04-Apr-17 22:21:46

I feel strongly about people making things up just to have a chance to be outraged roses. This may be reasonably insignificant except, perhaps, that our Prime Minister has brought our leading political office, which she is holding in our names, into disrepute by using fake news to appeal to those of her constituency with the least critical abilities.

Or, to put it simply, I don't like lies.

rosesarered Tue 04-Apr-17 22:07:20

Well, you obviously feel strongly about this subject GGM2 as this must be about your 10th post on the thread.grin
??????????
I must scour the house for some choc now.

Did you hear what the Archbishop of York said sunseeker. The Guardian had an online headline "The war on Easter eggs v the Archbishop of York – who will crack first? " He said it’s “tantamount to spitting on the grave of Cadbury”. The Cadbury family do not agree. It is out of all proportion.

In the article it also says. With regard to Cadbury's wiping out Easter

"And what is the website address? It’s www … oh, actually, never mind.
No, go on. Oh fine. It’s easter.cadbury.co.uk.
And what does the website say? Well, I mean, if you want to be pedantic, it says “Enjoy Easter fun at the National Trust’”, plus the menu at the top includes links to both “Easter products” and an “Easter hunt”.
So Cadbury isn’t erasing Easter at all? It is! John Sentamu said it is, and Theresa May said it is, so it definitely is! Look, I have to be outraged about something or I’ll die! Save Gibraltar! Bring back blue passports!
Do say: “It’s irresponsible for Cadbury’s to erase the word ‘Easter’, even if it hasn’t.”
Don’t say: “Coming soon: chocolate stigmata!”

Obviously someone sees the irony in constantly outraged grown people being taken in by fake news.

rosesarered Tue 04-Apr-17 19:59:30

grin sunseeker do you think some people have shares in Cadbury?

durhamjen Tue 04-Apr-17 19:41:18

Mawbroon, my grandaughter, 9, got a pound from the tooth fairy last weekend, so she's still around.

This explains quite nicely why May decided to get embroiled in it.

Ilovecheese Tue 04-Apr-17 19:24:33

Maybe they should be called "on sale from practically the day after Boxing Day eggs"

sunseeker Tue 04-Apr-17 16:47:10

As far as I am aware no-one is being "pilloried". To be honest I can't be bothered to discuss this with you anymore - I mean I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong.

Jalima1108 Tue 04-Apr-17 16:47:10

I don't know why you're getting cross with me GGMK11

I think they should be called Eggsters.
Solves all the problems

GracesGranMK2 Tue 04-Apr-17 16:40:29

Jalima no-one, anywhere, in any way, has said that Easter Eggs may not be called Easter Eggs and I am sure the same people who didn't say that wouldn't say you may not call the cake you have at Christmas a Christmas Cake. It is just a question of being even handed to those who occasionally chose to say 'egg' or 'cake' instead. If anyone thinks this is really still a Christian country they are not going to church regularly.

Sunseeker it would be good if you got your facts right. No one, anywhere has said people may not call then anything they choose to EXCEPT those who are waving there so called Christianity and saying Cadbury's/The National Trust should be pilloried because they chose to call them 'eggs' in one place while the word Easter was scattered everywhere else.

All this makes me realise just how Christian those who flaunt there so-called Christianity are.

MawBroon Tue 04-Apr-17 16:40:14

Nowhere, but nowhere, are Easter Eggs or the Easter Bunny mentioned in the bible sadsad
That's another illusion shattered then, especially Easter Bunny.
(You'll be telling me the Tooth Fairy isn't true either next. )

Granny23 Tue 04-Apr-17 16:39:54

If we are talking about the hen's eggs sized chocolate with fondant inside sort then as far as I am aware they have always been called Cadbury's Creme Eggs and been sold all year round. I never liked them - too sickly sweet - and stopped buying them for DH and DGC when they shifted production of the fondant (made as a bi-product of the Whisky industry) away from the distillery/yeast factory in our village.

Our non-religious family will receive a gift of spring clothing and a small chocolate egg each, roll painted hen's eggs down the garden, then go to the village centre to race Ducks down the burn. That's our tradition.

sunseeker Tue 04-Apr-17 16:32:06

thatbags I don't think any Christian would want to take away your celebration of Spring, just as we believe in the resurrection of Christ so Spring reflects the resurrection of nature. Enjoy your chocolate eggs and simnel cake!

thatbags Tue 04-Apr-17 16:23:01

Easter is the time when you will see more people in churches than at any other time. At least that's what my parents (both Christians) used to say, because believing in the resurrection of Christ is the most important tenet of Chritian faith.

thatbags Tue 04-Apr-17 16:20:50

Mr Bags would agree with you, sunseeker, about Easter being only a Christian festival. I dont' agree.

I don't celebrate Oestre in any particular way but I think my Spring enjoyments of things like chocolate eggs and simnel cake are just that, a human celebration of Nature. Christianity can't take this away from me however much they'd like to. Actually, I'm not sure most Christians would like to. Why would they want to ban something that does no-one and no religion any harm whatsoever?

sunseeker Tue 04-Apr-17 16:19:30

GGM2 but you are implying that those raising, very slight, objections will not be in church. So how do you know how many people go to church. May I suggest you go along to a church on Easter Sunday and have a look through the doors.
