Expensive, but worth it, purchases?

My indulgence was a Creenstone padded coat ... Bought at least 10 years ago. The best £300 spent ever. It's lightweight, deliciously warm, looks like new and yet still stylish and fits like a glove. I think these coats are made in Denmark.

Oh and my favourite perfume and Clarins Beauty Flash.

I have been saving up to buy the cordless dyson I know it's expensive but i know it will be easier for me to use. My daughter has one and she recommended it to me. I also have an iPad but was a present from h. Have got a karcher window cleaner which was in a sale and I recommend that too, easy for doing the windows.

Nespresso machine. Kindle paper white. Got a lot of use out of both

I have a Waring Blender , Sabatier & Heinkel kitchen knives all courtesy of DH (he worked for a company supplying kitchen equipment) also Le Creuset Casserole dish.

When we moved we bought quite a lot of new furniture, best buy was 2 x 2 seater settees from M&S, I only have one now (small home) but DD has the other one. I've still got all the rest of the new furniture, money well spent.

My extravagances are 2 jewellery purchases, a beautiful Ted Baker watch & a 2nd Eternity ring bought after DH died. I had lost some weight & was in danger of losing my Wedding ring & Eternity ring so I now have one in a smaller size which keeps them on my finger

I am a total gadget freak. I have a Delonghi bean-to-cup coffee maker and I use it every day for cappucchino, latte and espresso coffee, as I don't drink tea. I have a Morphy Richards Intellisteam, which is programmable, so everything can be put in at once and the individual compartments come on at different time, so it's all ready at the same time. I'm actually on my second now, as I've had it for years. I will confess to having a robot vacuum cleaner (called Felix). I just shut it in a room and leave it to get on with things. I also have a Rollie for cooking eggs - it was just for the hilarity factor, but actually the eggs taste good. It does have its own youtube videos, which are great fun.

I also confess to having a Kirby vacuum, which I bought from new. It was incredibly expensive and at the time I had no carpets but I wanted it. I have used it and the accessories frequently!

Always wanted Louboutins ; never be able to afford them or walk sensibly in them. Sometimes it's just enough to covet something from afar-SIGHS!!!!!

As some of you know already, I got my Dyson Supersonic hairdryer as soon as they were released onto the market (Sept 2016). I love it, and as far as I'm concerned, it's worth every penny. I wash and style my hair every morning, so I get plenty of use from it!
We have two Dyson fans, one upstairs, one down, they're very quiet.
I use Gtech vacuum cleaners, both the Air Ram and the Multi, and am just a bit cross that I didn't get the car kit free, as I bought the Air Ram when it first appeared, and the same with the Multi. I do think they should be a little more fair with their long time, loyal customers. I also have the Gtech cordless strimmer, which again is very, very good.
As DH and I both have knee problems, we splashed out and bought ourselves two riser/recliner chairs and a matching recliner sofa from HSL, we did a lot of thinking about that purchase, as it was an awful lot of money. However, for the first time in years we can both sit comfortably and more or less pain free to watch TV, read, snooze, whatever!
I have broken both my feet several times over the years, so wear Rieker or Rohde shoes, Merrell's trainers and walking boots, but Skechers are good for everyday wandering about!
I have a Neff 'slide and hide' oven and induction hob, Kenwood Chef, inherited from my DM, (it's been fully refurbished), Global knives, Dualit toaster, Quooker boiling water tap (incredibly useful), Le Creuset casserole dishes, Microplane graters, but I love to cook, so I use them all frequently!
We only have one child and one grandchild, so we bought DGS's car seat, pram body, chassis, stroller seat, changing bag and footmuff all from Cybex. Expensive, but strong, luxurious for a little person, and plenty of wonderful features. We've just ordered his next car seat as he's growing really fast!
I should point out that I worked full time for thirty eight years, didn't always have money to spare, our holidays used to be in caravans in N. Wales, I don't smoke (gave up over twenty five years ago), hardly drink, apart from a very occasional Irish Whisky, rarely go out to eat, we prefer to stay home.
The way I see it, there are no pockets in shrouds, you can't take it with you, and it's made round to go round! If you want something, can afford it without struggling or going into debt, why not have it?
My DF died at the age of 61, not even getting to retire from work, so I'm enjoying my money now, just in case!

My second-top of the range Magimix. I bought it when my Kenwood food processor went up in smoke! It's tough and reliable, mixes, slices and shreds in seconds. And it doesn't take up too much kitchen space.

Luxury-wise, when I found I had some extra cash to burn I invested in Jo Malone Pomegranate Noire scent and love it to bits!

A pair of Gucci court shoes - bought in 1971 for two week's wages. Madness. They lasted nearly 20 yrs. Re soled and reheeled a few times. The most comfortable, smart and fabulously wonderful shoes ever. Not obviously Gucci. I have now idea how often I wore them - I lived in them. Just the best investment ever. It was like a bereavement the day I realised they just had to go.

I would love to have a Thermomix (DD has one) but I have so many other gadgets that are not that old I can't justify the expense.

My old Dyson vacuum cleaner only just gave up after 20 years and, when the flexible hose split they sent me another one free of charge.

I'm not a gadget person but I love my knives,I've got two sets one Sabatiers that I've had for 25 years and a fab set of Global knives that I collected over a few years ...wouldn't dare work out what I spent on them but several hundred pound at least.I use my knives every day so well worth the money and they'll last my lifetime at least

A Dyson fan is ideal for a conservatory but do bear in mind it is just moving warm air around if it is very warm. Air conditioning unit might be a better alternative.

I love my I pad mini, use it all day long. Portable for moving around our home and small so can pop it in my bag. I chat to family on face time. Play word games and use difftent apps. The camera is just what I need for instant snaps and video.

I love my Vitamix.

I really can never understand all the praise that is heaped on Dyson products. I had one of their vacuum cleaners and it was rubbish- it didn't suck up that well and the pipe was made of very brittle plastic and broke easily. They wanted a large of money to send me a replacement so I bought a Henry instead. Nowhere near as expensive, much better suction and it lasted me for years. My daughter bought a very expensive Dyson, against my recommendation, one of those advertised as guaranteed to suck up ALL pet hairs. Again that proved rubbish too.
BTW, my best purchase ever have been my pets.

My extravagance is Lulu Guinness handbags, I buy them in the sale, I would never pass them on to a charity shop like I do if I buy a high street handbag.

As for the Dyson hairdryer, I think a hairdryer is only as good as the person doing the drying, if you can't blow dry your own hair, what's the point?

Shysal, I agree absolutely about the Gtech vac and hedge trimmer. Both light and easy to use. Wish I could afford the lawn mower.

My other extravagance is the Karcher window vac. Costs around £50 with the accesories but you can find it cheaper, I think the best deal at the moment is £41.99 at John Dyer (?)
Mine was bought with Christmas gift vouchers from Amazon so was free for me.
I hated cleaning windows but this makes the job so quick and easy. Does lots of other things besides Windows. Mirrors, glass top tables, tiles, fridge freezer doors, showers and screens. Car windscreens. Highly recommend.

A John Lewis version of a Vi-sprung mattress, £1200 12 years ago, and oh so worth it! Best mattress I have ever had.

I also love my Bernina sewing machine bought with money left to me by my grandfather when I was 21. I am heart broken because the motor has just gone and after much search on the internet, it is now no longer available, and someone in UK tried to sort it to no avail, it is now defunct.

Anyone out there know how to get hold of a motor for a Bernina Record 730, bought in 1970?

If I can't get one then I shall buy a Juki machine, who now make Bernina, but nowadays they are all plastic and I so love the substantial metal of mine.

Will be forever indebted to anyone who can help me!

I have a Dyson hairdryer and I like it but it's definitely not worth £300. I love my very expensive goose down pillow and duvet - like sleeping under a cloud!

please could any gransnetters let me know if the dyson fan would be good for a conservatory on those unbearable hot days,we cant even open the doors its so hot.

I have a work iPad but as I'm leaving soon I will have to hand it back. Definitely want to get one of my own now I am used to having it. Maybe I'll put it on my Christmas list! I can't get over how quick it is to come on and open up emails etc compared to a laptop. Amazing ?

I agree with some of you about good shoes. Comfortable feet are sooooo important and the expensive ones are usually leather and let your feet breathe. The most expensive item I've had is my Tempur mattress. Heaven to sleep on. Yes it was about 1K but worth every penny, as I have a curvature of the spine and it moulds exactly to my misshapen body.
