Anyone else find their adult dc a bit boring?

Its only when they try to explain their jobs (all very different from mine) that i get bored as I dont really understand what they do! But it doesnt usually happen. Usually talk about the children, holidays and other family things

I'd love to see mine often enough to have conversations with them but when we do get together with the eldest and his family we come away feeling our we've gone deaf as they all talk non stop. My son, his dad and I often talk about work so that's normal really. We do find it a little difficult to have conversations with our other son in NZ on Skype as it's pandemonium with two small kids running around demanding attention! When my in-laws were alive I loved visiting them and having really great conversations about anything and everything - my own parents were not quite so talkative.

I'm lucky, my son talks about anything and everything. He sometimes has a moan about work, but he's happy in his life and we enjoy hearing from him.

I'm lucky my 2 daughters are very chatty about most topics I love our chats sometimes we have 2 way FaceTime with my youngest daughter who lives in Australia .

Well there's 'not boring' and there's ! Sometimes 'boring' is definitely preferable I find

Riverwalk lol. My youngest likes jazz! Thankfully, he doesn't play an instrument or I'd have to listen like a doting mother

I love my sons but you know, our tastes are so different. Fortunately we all have the same sense of humour.

I don't find our adult children at all boring. However, I found that no matter how much I tried to take an interest in their latest hobbies my two young grandsons were a little too animated about their favourite subjects(Lego/gaming/trains/Star Wars etc.) which eventually became rather wearing. Now when nearing breaking point I interrupt and ask if they would like to know about my interests i.e. sewing, knitting gardening. They soon take the hint and it's our cue for laughter.

This made me laugh out loud - hilarious! I don't find my daughter boring but we have similar interests and personality generally - I'm pretty sure my mum finds me boring she glazes over

I strongly suspect Bee63 that this simply one of those things that people feel they can't admit outside the family. You know the whole, "I can be rude about them but no-one else can" type belief.

I find my entire family boring beyond all reason at times, especially when my mother repeats the same lengthy tale about 8 times on 8 different visits and won't take the hint of, yes I know you've mentioned it before and I still can't do anything about it, (Q:Would you like me to actually phone someone who can? A: No, no I was just saying .... )

But of course if I admitted that publicly I'd be a 'bad' daughter/relative

Well I'm going to be totally, searingly honest, and say DD1 is a complete bore!All she can talk about is her bl...y all-consuming career, her wonderful husband (he's a prat), their ama-a-a-zingholidays, their fantastic social life (on the rare occasions she emails the opening sentence is always 'It's been mad here'....like no-one else has a busy life). When she actually managed to find a 'window' to attend her father's cremation afterwards she still kept banging on re the above mentioned topics.
DD2 is the complete opposite... I thank God for her every day.As for DD1 I couldn't care less if I see her once in a blue moon.
Well, at least I'm honest. As my dear OH used to say 'you can choose your friends.... you're stuck with your family'. But I don't intend to spend my last few years stuck with family members who annoy me !!

YES YES YES !!! Half an hour to offload work/children/husband problems, and then cheerio. Not so much as a 'How are you'.
But fortunately her two sisters are just the opposite.

DS and I were having a lovely chat this evening then DH took over joined in and start talking about his flipping car.

my DD and DS are very different but both are very interesting and we discuss different things. DD is a high flier, ambitious with interesting career and DS also with an interesting job is happier just working then going home. Very different but both have loads to talk about both work inspired and other things including politics and their respective families. We are never at a loss to find things to talk about or discuss/

I have no idea what my DD or her partner actually do. DD has master's degree in psychology and her job means nothing to me and when she tries to explain, she talks to me like I'm a complete idiot and my years of working as a NNEB nursery nurse were worthless. As for her partner he is something in computers but no idea what lol.

I am so proud of her achievements but don't particularly like the person she has become

Boring? Not mine!
DD spent a night crawling under bushes in a a Royal Park on an annual hedgehog count. DS somehow managed a triathlon last year - in spite of not having ridden a bicycle for 25 years and only being lent one just before the off. Not having swum since his teens either he joined a triathlon swimming course and had to be fished out by the rescue kayak. His running is fine!!
In spite of having 7 DC (2-22)and newborn GC between them, plus partners, jobs and homes to run they are still fun to be with.

No not dull or boring! They meet here, after work, 2 x week as they pick up their respective children and the banter and conversation as they catch up is lively and funny even if they are both tired. I find it lovely to observe and to be a part of.
