Queen Camilla

It is all rather an unfortunate mess. I would prefer it to go straight to William, who seems to be more of a modern monarchy. However succession doesn't work like that.
Camilla seems a sensible sort- I am sure that she would just be a support, whatever she is called.

I've posted before that they should be a tourist attraction and do shows/reenactments whilst opening the Royal palaces. It just occurred to me that we could have a "Win the Crown" competition as well. All Royals would be eligible, there would be a number of challenges and the person who won would hold the crown for 1 year. Separate competitions for Monarch and consort. Much more exciting than just having a succession.

joannewton46 there are countless countries that have a president that is nothing Like Trump,successful countries that have elections for president and they come and go without problems or controversy ,how about the Republic of Ireland for instance.I have never heard any slurs about their presidents,in fact Mary Robertson(Robinson ?) was widely respected ,theres no massive amounts of money spent by them or on them and believe it or not TOURISTS STILL VISIT.Exactly the same as they do in France where there hasn't been monarchy for centuries.

Trump is not a problem for Americans. He was elected legally to take care of the huge debt left by Obama.

Charles’s website, for example, publicly states that Camilla will be known as HRH The Princess Consort when Charles accedes, and these assurances have served, over the years, to dampen the anger of traditionalists at court, who still perceive that making Camilla queen would be rewarding adultery.

My gut feeling is that Charles will never be king, our next monarch will be William.

Rewarding adultery, when has the monarch been pure?

Defender of the Faith – a title that the monarch assumes and that has been officially recognised since 1544. Is it a problem if the monarch is divorced and/or his consort is divorced? Is it a problem if the monarch and/or his consort has committed adultery? Let me see – who was the monarch in 1544? Oh, it was Henry VIII, he of the six wives, two of whom he divorced (shock! horror!) and two of whom he beheaded (really very much nastier!) I think the only issue is if the consort has committed or is committing adultery with someone who is not the monarch – but there has never been the slightest suggestion that the Duchess of Cornwall is even slightly tempted.

Stop being so bloody prissy and get over it. If we are going to play at kings and queens, we might as well do it whole heartedly.

I too don't see a problem. The Queen is showing no signs of snuffing it just yet, but when the time does come Camilla has proved herself an able consort to Charles and they obviously work well as a team. And after all she's nearly 70, well past providing an heir and upsetting the barrel, she could easily pre-decease the Queen.

Diana was no angle and she knew exactly what she was letting herself in for but she just couldn't handle it. After all she was the most beautiful woman in the world and her husband wanted someone else!.

She was very photogenic (much more so than Camilla!) but she never struck me as an absolute beauty; more that there was "something about her.."

Nope it hasn't. It was just passing comments. Its no skin off my nose who is isn't the best looking!

It's an old argument absent, to say that many have committed adultery, including Henry VIII, and other Royals, but that doesn't make it right. Toffs in country houses playing musical bedrooms isn't right. People have been killing each other for years but that doesn't make it right either.

If believing the commandments makes me bloody prissy then so be it.

I have just discovered a very good Netflix created series called The Crown which is a dramatised but intended to be accurate story of the monarchy from approximately the 1930s onwards. Historically it's a very good rendition of the times and the issues which arise that the family had to confront. It certainly makes you realise how times have changed.

I have watched the Crown and greatly enjoyed it. Highly recommended!

The Crown is addictive viewing. I can't wait for the next series having binge-watched the first one.

Apologies in advance for not reading all posts - on holiday with not great wifi. Just wanted to add that I think, in modern times, the title of King or Queen should be reserved exclusively for the reigning monarch if we insist on maintaining a monarchy. We have had great kings and queens in their own right and their spouses should have a lesser title.
