Anniebach, sorry to say this but I think stealing someone else' husband is unkind too! Betraying a trust is also unkind.
Good Morning Friday 7th August 2026
What made you fall in love with your OH?
Prince Charles is campaigning for Camilla to be Queen Camilla when he becomes King. I would not like her to be Queen. I think they both behaved appallingly in carrying on their affair when they were both married to someone else. They had no concern for the hurt, upset and heartbreak they caused Diana and Andrew PB. They just thought it was perfectly OK to act as they did. It's 80 years since Edward abdicated to marry a divorced woman, and Margaret was not able to marry Peter Townsend, even though she was unlikely to ascend the throne. So what rules have changed? He has what he wanted and married her, but making her Queen is condoning their adultery.
But I think I'm in the minority in my view.
Anniebach, sorry to say this but I think stealing someone else' husband is unkind too! Betraying a trust is also unkind.
Just a thought, Charles Spencer had three older sisters but he got the title and the estate
Mountbatten didn't have sons so by the wave of a magic wand queenie shifted the title Lady Mountbatten to his daughter
The wife if a King is officially queen consort, I suppose Phil and Albert couldn't be King because of the male hierarchy thingy
I agree anniebach
But - if the wife of a King is known as Queen why is the husband of a reigning Queen not called King?
Is that sex discrimination?
I am usually critical,of the windsors , but on this I think if a second wife can take her husbands titles this applies to Camilla too, and revenge is unkind
There is no doubt that Diana was manipulative, no doubt that she didn't do herself any favours
But that makes no difference to whether Camilla should be queen. Frankly, I care as much about the royals as they do about me.. as I've said, they will do as they please, anyway.
If she wasn't playing games with the press they would not have left the ritz that night , it was she who contacted the press for photo shoots on the yacht , sadly she played this game for years
Well, I suppose if we're going down that route, then she wouldn't have been in the car... etc etc
I doubt most of you don't buy newspapers when they have anything interesting about the Royals, I certainly don't as if one things about it. The general public were the ones who actually killed Diana when the car was driving so fast to get away from the media. If so many were not interested in reading about Diana, there would not have been that many chasing the car.
Jalima.
Loved the leopardskin "jodhpurs",
Beammeup I saw that sketch, it was hilarious!
I was wondering if she should change her name, perhaps use her middle name.
But it is Rosemary (very pretty, I like it) which is not very Queen-like.
Queen Camilla?
Queen Rosemary?
Her parents did not have the foresight of Katherine's
I would have thought parcels would have been opened by private secretaries , and again only Diana's word. I am surprised no newspaper has't found a photograph of Charles wearing these cufflinks , one would expect something of such sentimental value wouldn't have been left in the back of a drawer
I would put the onus on Charles, for not marrying Diana, given the age difference and his family situation.
And no doubt that an edit button would be handy.
I think Camilla's the best thing to have happened for Charles and the Royal family, they were in a relationship long before Diana came into the picture. I knew and liked Camilla years ago.
Diana was definitely no saint, she didn't give a toss for the partners and families of those she set her eyes on. She should never have married Charles in my opinion.
Charles and Diana love were a mismatch from the start, for whatever reasons. I think there was always an unease between them.
There is absolutely no doubt that Camilla is far more suited to him.
There doesn't seem to be any evidence that Camilla and Diana were friends, let alone best ones at any time. As for Camilla being a 'gold digger' - rubbish!
And as Annie pointed out, Diana wasn't bothered about the wives of the men she threw herself at just to get back at Charles.
All very unedifying!
Charles and Diana were both needy. She craved an affectionate, amusing self-confident man and he craved the mothering kind of love given to him by Camilla. Apparently, Camilla praises his every move and boosts his confidence. You need to be pretty grounded to support Charles.
Charles' and Diana's marriage broke up BECAUSE of his adultery! Diana opened a parcel addressed to Charles (yes, I know but she must have been suspicious, perhaps it smelt of perfume), and she found inside a bracelet with F and G letter charms on it. The initials of the names these two used to refer to each other as.
How would you have reacted had it been your husband? Wouldn't you have confronted him? Would have you felt ok with your husband-to-be wearing cufflinks given to him by his mistress, at your wedding? Would you have put up with him going off to meet his mistress whilst you were on honeymoon? Personally I would have called it a day then and there. It wasn't just one marriage these two split up it was two and four children, two on each side, lost their mother. But hey, that's life aye? Actually I think they deserve what they get myself. They knew exactly what they were doing.
Diana did not have affairs until the scandal hit the papers. She could have been happy if it had not been for gold digger Camilla. Who needs friends like that?
Just because Kings and Queens behaved the same way in the past does not excuse their behaviour. In the past men were allowed to beat their wives, they aren't now.
beameupscottie.
Did anyone see the Tracy Ullman show where TU dressed up as Camilla buying clothes in a Charity Shop and slapping notes on the counter, saying "20 mother-in-laws, 10 mother-in-laws". She is apparently very humorous and would howl at that.
Camilla seems a decent enough old stick, and no doubt would make as good a Queen as most.
It's all pretty irrelevant anyway, they're not gods, they're human beings with all the associated faults and weaknesses. What's important is that they keep prancing around in their jewels and flummery in order to massage our tourism industry, which seems to be all we'll have left before long.
I have nothing against the royals as people, and I'm sure they fulfill a purpose, but I think they should all take a pay cut in these straitened times - you see, we're all in it together as whatsisname said!
The succession will be according to protocol. It isn't a soap opera, despite a lot of people in here seeming to know a lot about it! Monarchs have always behaved badly.
Whether the monarchy will survive after the present Queen is a different matter.
With the exception of those who hold strict religious views on adultery and devorce then no difference st all. Or a Diana fan who think there is no revenge for Diana but if Camilla was prevented from being queen they would see it as s victory for Diana
When push comes to shove, what difference is it going to make to the life of anyone in the UK or the 15 (?) Commonwealth countries of which the British monarch is also queen or king, whether the Duchess of Cornwall remains the Duchess of Cornwall, becomes Queen Consort Camilla, becomes Princess Consort Camilla or the Archimandrite of Nether Wallop?
