TV programmes that bring memories back

As a child I had a fear of Charlie Drake, and used to squeal when he came on the telly in a programme called ( I think) " Mick and Montmorency " .

I found Charlie Drake a bit scary too.

I had a Torchy the Battery Boys jigsaw when I was little! How I wish I'd hung onto that!

And Sugarfoot! I'd completely forgotten about that one. I Love Lucy was one of the best programmes on tv. What a amazing collection of memories.

Over the years I have watched many pre school programmes: my own favourite was Rag, Tag and Bobtail, then with my brothers ( who are 16/18 years younger than me) Trumpton and Candlewick Green, my DD loved Bagpuss, and now with my GC we enjoy Mr Tumble - then I remembered Mr Pastry!

I hated Mr.Pastry, I've never liked slapstick comedy!

I agree, nonnasusie. Slapstick has always made me feel uncomfortable. For that reason I could never take to Norman Wisdom.

I liked Mr Pastry --and Abbot and Costello and The 3 Stooges--

I loved bonanza and the early coronation street which was more realistic in those days

The more I have read on this thread the more programmes I remember and I didn't think I watched that much TV.

In my teens my first and biggest ever crush was on Jess Harper(played by Robert Fuller) from Laramie. I was made to go to bed early and, as I was never tired, I created so many fantasies about my imaginary life with him! I have just googled him and 'wow' I went weak at the knees all over again. He was beautiful!! Shallow I might be but I do NOT wish to see photos of him as a now 83 year old.

Anybody else had crushes on early TV stars that may or may not remain with them?

Loved Beverly Hillbillies....green acres and Marcus welby md young doctor was very dishy...grew up on Jackson five the Osmonds and partridge family....Thursday was the highlight...top of the pops

Grandma I had a photo of Robert Fuller on my wall. I idolised him too. Can we share him ?

OMG Grandma2213 - More recently when Pride and Prejudice was on tv I had such a crush on Colin Firth as Mr Darcy. I even wrote to him and about 8 months later got a reply. A signed photo and a letter thanking me for getting in touch!! What a good bloke, he must have been inundated with letters and it seems that he answered every one. I still think he's gorgeous and watch everything he's in but have finally accepted that he doesn't live near me and I won't bump into him any time soon - this was my fantasy way back then!!

Back in the sixties, we used to race home from whatever we were doing to watch the Forsyte Saga. I was reminded of it the other day when I heard the music they used for the theme tune. Lovely Irene, nasty Soames and his artistic brother Jolyon, with whom she fell in love. Compulsive viewing.

I'm new and l love this thread. Anyone remember the Cedar tree and Adam Adamant who was encased in a block of ice from the Victorian era black cape and all. I can't remember the actors names but can see their faces quite clearly.

I had a big crush on Ilya Kuryakin ( (David McCallum) in the Man from Uncle ( and now he appears regularly in NCIS - he's aged quite well). I loved Ben Murphy in Alias Smith and Jones, and Manolito in The High Chapperal.

Oh Manolito! I'd forgotten about him and the High Chaperal! He was very good looking! Remember him now! Odd isn't it. I can remember so many of the characters named on this thread quite well like yesterday but I can't remember anything I've seen on TV in the last month!

DanniRae That Darcy moment got me too but it was only Darcy. Colin Firth 'mincing' at the end of 'Mama Mia' kind of destroyed it (but it was very funny)

Talking of crushes, I had a crush on the guy in The Persuaders. Can anyone remember his name?

To be honest all of "Mama Mia" made me cringe Grandma2213 and yes you are right it wasn't Colin's (as I call him - now we correspond!!) best moment. My fav bit in P and P was how he was looking at her with love in his eyes when she was playing the piano/or when he said, after a fencing session "I will conquer THIS"/or when they met by surprise in the grounds of his house/or when his shirt was wet from his dip in the pond.......... I will stop now but I think I need to watch the dvd again!!

Oh, ruddy Mamma Mia! My friends all raved about it, so I settled down one evening with a big glass of red and a box of chocs all set to enjoy it on TV. I'd switched it off within half an hour - what a cringefest (still drank the wine and ate the chocs though ).

I don't think Colin (yes, we're on intimate terms as well, DanniRae) had even put in an appearance by then, so my P & P fantasies memories remain unsullied.
