TV programmes that bring memories back

Chewbacca I loved Quatermass. In later years there was another one which had lots of hippy type characters wandering and converging on Wembley Stadium where.... well I won't divulge what happened in case anybody has never seen it. I don't think it has ever been repeated but I would love to see it again (Now I am older -and- -wiser- probably believe it could happen) There was a haunting chant about 'Ringstone Round' which still haunts me. Does anyone else remember it?

I remember my dad letting me stay up one evening to watch Sunday Night at the London Palladium because some kind of insects were on - it was the Beatles!

Our TV set once burst into flames when mam and I were engrossed in a Hammer Horror. My dad was roused from his bed by the shrieking, walked calmly through the front room, returned with a bucket of water, threw it over the set and went back to bed. We had to go down to Rediffusion the next day for a new telly.

Jack Palance was in Shane . I used to love sitting with my dad watching the old Westerns on TV - this was one of my favourites, along with The Yearling and High Noon. Some of the Western series have been mentioned - Bonanza, The High Chaparral, Wagon Train. My mum preferred the Hollywood classics - Bette Davis was our favourite - Now, Voyager, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. And the Hammer Horrors on a Friday (?) night. Happy days!

The wrestler was Jackie Pallo NotToo - Jack Pallance was an actor!

Would Billy Two Rivers be one of the wrestlers NotToo? I used to sit with my dad and watch on a Saturday afternoon too! Lots of grunting and groaning to great effect I remember!

I think Wagon Train has been mentioned and yes, it was Clint Eastwood who played Rowdy Yates and the other one was Robert Horton. Me and my sister had a major crush on him but we could only watch the prog on alternate weeks as we had to take turns with our lovely Dad who wanted to watch the news prog on 'the other side'. Another favourite was the wrestling on a Saturday afternoon with Jackie Pallance (?) and others whom I've forgotten - was it Giant Haystacks or he was he later on? Sometimes it was tag wrestling which was more exciting. I'm sure I'd hate it now.

Anyone remember the terror that was Quatermass? Frightened the bejaysus out of me as a child! I can still recall one particular episode that was set in a long disused underground tube station that had alien "pods", just waiting to hatch. Scared me witless! Must have been the late 1950s I think?

I used to rush in from school to watch General Hospital. Before that I loved the series Black Beauty shown at Sunday teatimes.

Yes, Land of the Giants (says she, hurriedly changing the subject). Another one I loved! I enjoyed corny sci fi and I'm still a bit of a Whovian on the quiet, though I never have a clue what's going on.

Oh maggiemaybe and how are you on intimate terms with Colin?Did he send you a signed photo and a personal letter, may I ask? I didn't mention this before but I actually had a letter I had sent to Radio Times about my devotion to P and P printed!! He, of course, would have read the item in RT and no doubt would have recognised my name. I remember the Time Tunnel! I think there was also a programme called Land of the Giants where the special effects were a bit odd. The scenery used to shake in Dr Who ( back in the William Hartnell days), but not as badly as in the school's programme Look and Read ( remember Wordy?) - I don't think they had much of a budget!

To put the thread back on track, can anyone remember The Time Tunnel, where they ran through a spinning stripey tube to travel through time? I loved it, but I bet the special effects would be hilarious now.

I had a thing for George Clooney going back to his ER days, till I saw him in a scene where he had to run in his slippers in The Descendants. He's got a really weird running style. I had to let him down gently after that.

Oh, ruddy Mamma Mia! My friends all raved about it, so I settled down one evening with a big glass of red and a box of chocs all set to enjoy it on TV. I'd switched it off within half an hour - what a cringefest (still drank the wine and ate the chocs though ).

I don't think Colin (yes, we're on intimate terms as well, DanniRae) had even put in an appearance by then, so my P & P fantasies memories remain unsullied.

To be honest all of "Mama Mia" made me cringe Grandma2213 and yes you are right it wasn't Colin's (as I call him - now we correspond!!) best moment. My fav bit in P and P was how he was looking at her with love in his eyes when she was playing the piano/or when he said, after a fencing session "I will conquer THIS"/or when they met by surprise in the grounds of his house/or when his shirt was wet from his dip in the pond.......... I will stop now but I think I need to watch the dvd again!!

Talking of crushes, I had a crush on the guy in The Persuaders. Can anyone remember his name?

DanniRae That Darcy moment got me too but it was only Darcy. Colin Firth 'mincing' at the end of 'Mama Mia' kind of destroyed it (but it was very funny)

Oh Manolito! I'd forgotten about him and the High Chaperal! He was very good looking! Remember him now! Odd isn't it. I can remember so many of the characters named on this thread quite well like yesterday but I can't remember anything I've seen on TV in the last month!

I had a big crush on Ilya Kuryakin ( (David McCallum) in the Man from Uncle ( and now he appears regularly in NCIS - he's aged quite well). I loved Ben Murphy in Alias Smith and Jones, and Manolito in The High Chapperal.

I'm new and l love this thread. Anyone remember the Cedar tree and Adam Adamant who was encased in a block of ice from the Victorian era black cape and all. I can't remember the actors names but can see their faces quite clearly.
