I bought some vitapoint recently....Amazon I think, and find it good as you only use a tiny amount.
Funny how you remember things from years ago, and give them another try. I bought some Eucryl tooth powder, which made my teeth feel clean, but didn't do much for the enamel.
I remember being given Genasprin, and Seidlitz powders, which came in two sachets and had to be mixed in the right order. Milk of magnesia? And for constipation senna pods boiled to make senna tea. Chocolate exlax came as a great improvement!

You can still get Collis Brown's mixture. My co-grandmother always takes some on holiday in case of stomach upsets.

Anyone remember (or been subjected to) those dreadful Home-Perm kits? One called "Twink" springs to mind. Terrible! Terrible!

My mother insisted on perming my hair as soon as I reached 14 - she PROMISED that I would look like Julie Christie once she had finished.....

When the stuff wasn't stinging then it was stinking. It was almost pure ammonia, I certain. If we had Health and Safety way back then, this stuff certainly slipped through the net.

Needless to say, when dear Mama took the stupid, crucifying curlers out it was pure frizz, frizz, frizz.

I looked like a Dandelion Clock.

We children used to queue up for spoonful of cod liver oil followed by a spoonful of Delrosa ( rose hip syrup) . Nasty then nice

Oh I remember Kaolin and Morphine Chewbacca. My mum used to swear by it when I was young.

I'm furiously trying to remember the name of the yellow burn lotion that came in a ridged brown bottle. I can still remember the smell.

I also remember my dad would become grumpy if there were no Askit Powders in the house (he was always grumpy). I think they've been discontinued as it was discovered they were addictive. Someone was selling single packs on eBay for over £200!

Beechams pills, Drene shampoo, Radio Malt, Lincolin shampoo, Bile beans, I was once given some little pills for worms which were full of a violet liquid which stained all the sheets when I spat it out in disgust. Love rosehip syrup.

My youngest stepson still uses TCP. Reminds me of toilet bowl cleaner!

Lujaha, that purple stuff was gentian violet. I was being treated for threadworms with those pills and somehow one ended up in the apple tart we had for pud (or rather, didn't have!)

At first sign of a cold out came the Fennings, horrible stuff no idea what it was supposed to do

Elrel I too was given Dr Collis Browne's Chlorodyne - you can still buy it, although somehow I don't think it's quite as potent today, as the recommended adult dose is now three TEASPOONS in a glass of warm water..!! I do keep it in, as I still find it very soothing for an upset stomach -- but it's now mostly peppermint essence, having sadly lost the laudanum (an alcoholic solution of opium), tincture of cannabis, and chloroform ..

Gran5up - yes!! That was it... Acriflavine. I can still remember my mum saying it in her Scottish accent. Thanks for that. It's been bugging me all morning - memory must be going!

My DF swore by Zambuc for almost anything. I remember it as green and greasy. He'd be horrified by its current price.

Ours must have been an odd family as I used to love Parrishes and my mother told me that my grandfather used to laugh at the four of us children in our pyjamas for Scot's Emulsion as if it was a treat!

I remember taking yeastvite tablets in my early 20s and also a slimming aid called ayds they were a bit like a sweet you chewed two before meals and they were meant to make you feel full.

I remember Horlicks tablets (lovely) and wonder if they are still made?
They're probably really bad for your teeth.

I think my mum took Yeastvite for her nerves. I still recall a little yellow box. I got a spoonfull of Virol every day, and a spoonfull of Delrosa.

My mother had dry hair and used vitapointe. My father swore by Gee's Linctus when he was ill even though it tasted appalling. I was given x-lax regularly (or so it seems now) for constipation, and it put me off dark chocolate for years. Also cod liven oil capsules and that orange juice stuff. I also had half an aspirin crushed up in a jam sandwich if in pain!

Mum used to buy Beechams powders for headaches. Little paper wraps of powder that you disolved in water.
I loved the taste of Andrews Liver Salts and would make myself "a lemonade" when mum and dad weren't around.
My brother and I both suffered frequently suffered with sinusitis and would be given nasal drops. Once in bed we had to hang our head over the edge so mum could administer the drops and let gravity do the rest I loved them !

Beechams powders really seemed to work.
I could do with one now, have a rotten cold.

I remember syrup of figs yuk.

Oh, nose drops!! My dad had to get my three year old self in a headlock to administer them - yuck, can still taste them running down the back of my throat! Yes, I remember Ayds slimming chewies! Also Limmits biscuits for slimming too! Loved Delrosa and Halibut Orange tabs, hated the did liver oil caps!
