Sanatogen was favoured by my darling granny in her 80s. She was given bottles for her birthday, Christmas and Mothering Sunday by her devoted sons and got through them remarkably quickly! Well fortified granny!
I loved my doses of Rose Hip Syrup and Virol as a child and occasionally that lovely orange juice my little cousin had from the clinic!

Do people still use Fennings powders for teething babies? I used to have to buy extra because I loved eating the powder straight from the wrapper!

I think Parrishes food did do something to your innards, yes, as it had iron in it! Upon Googling, I find you can still buy it. But only for pigeons.

You can buy rose hip syrup again for culinary purposes. I love it! I also used to love that National Health concentrated orange juice. I think it was made by Gerber. Gripe water is still available but they've taken the alcohol content out, which must render it useless!

My mum used to use Vitapointe, I remember that. We used to wash with Lifebuoy soap, or Cussons soap sometimes. We'd have bath cubes in our bath for a treat - anyone remember those?

I loved Scott's Emulsion (strange child) and malt and cod liver oil. I used to give my children rose hip syrup as babies and toddlers, but it is deemed to be a BAD THING now as it has too much sugar in it. B****r all the vitamin C it contained. I gave mine Minadex too if they needed a pick me up after illness.

I've just remembered that I was dosed with senna pod "tea" on Saturday mornings, also for my constipation. It was foul.
PS the only reason I was afflicted, was that we had an outside lav and I was frightened of the spiders within, so put off going for days.

Minadex was my mother's cure for everything from around the age of 11! A hug and a chat might have helped more

My mother used to give me"Cod liver oil & malt"from a big brown bottle, it was thick like treacle. I loved it! I remember my aunt having bile beans, little pills presumably for the digestive system.

Was it sal volatile that people took to restore themselves when Mr Darcy overstepped the mark (I should be so lucky) it was smelling salts but there was also something you took drops of....??

Well the latest on the market is Spatone, sachets of Welsh mineral water that is extremely high in iron. Doctor suggested it as I find it hard to take iron tablets. Must say it tasted revolting and I needed 3 ginger nut biscuits afterwards to take the raste away. Anyone else used this?

The medicine I remember most - with dread - was Fennings Fever Cure. It was a foul tasting liquid that my Mum swore by and I imagined was what poison tasted like!

Syrup of Figs comes to mind - every Saturday night but not as bad as Milk of Magnesia! No wonder I now have bowel problems!!! In the 40s and 50s keeping 'regular' seemed to be an obsession in our household.

I take Spatone too, Barmyoldbat. Not on its own, though. Since the body needs vitamin C to help it utilise the iron, I take a sachet in a glass of Ribena or orange juice. No nasty taste at all, that way! Very good stuff, and the only way I can take supplement my iron intake, since iron tablets make me ill.

Oh yes I remember Minadex. I was a skinny weak little child (though you wouldn't think so now from the size of me!) And I had to have this on a Sunday night after a session in the old tin bath in front of the fire! I had forgotten all about it till I saw that Minadex name. Thanks for the memory.
Did anyone out there have Haliborange tablets? I saw something similar in the chemists at Asda the other day, still called Haliborange.

'Zam Buck' ointment for aching hands, 'Gregory's' stomach powders (yuck!) for upsets and 'Abdine' for headaches. Daresay more will materialise as I ruminate this in the course of the day as well as the memory jerkers I expect here.

I recently bought Caolin and Morphine on the internet (U.K. Company). I like to have it just in case it's so soothing.

I remember being given a Haliborange capsule which, I think, was supposed to be a more palatable way of taking cod liver oil. I bit into it and was promptly sick all over the sitting room carpet. Mum didn't try that again.

Gripe water:my baby sis had Nurse Harvey's, with drawing of an infant on the label wrestling snakes!Hercules?? I loved it ( due, I have discovered to the taste of the dill seeds in it) and would pinch it frequently. Wise Ma switched to Dinneford's magnesia which was foul so weirdly, Ma found it lasted much longer!
Daughter's pal gave her husband some gripe water for tummy ache, gave him severe pain, Dr was most contemptuous but I thought she was rather enterprising.

The doctor at the baby clinic prescribed Minadex for my poorly toddler and we used to get free rose hip syrup. When I was little,our colds were treated with inhalations of Friars Balsam, and we were given Langdales Essence of Cinnamon in hot milk, and we were regularly(!)dosed with senna tea and Virol. After falling off my bike and wounding my knee on the gravel, my mother treated it with a hot poultice on lint which stayed in place for days, I still remember the misery of having it removed because the lint was well and truly stuck and had to be soaked off, I've still got the scar to this day.

I have a tube of Vitapointe which I bought recently,either in Tesco or Sainsburys with an online shop.
Does anyone remember Dilly Duckling pastilles for sore throats?They came in a tin and tasted so lovely that I used to pretend I had a sore throat in the hope of mom buying me some!
