Understatement!

My father was a Lancaster bomber pilot in 1944 and was awarded the DFC. He never spoke of his time in the RAF. The men were told not to speak of their work and they didn't. However he wrote a daily journal about his tour of 30 ops in the Lancaster which I now have together with his medals and RAF log book.

Have just signed the petition for George to be given the honor. Amazing injustice that he was nominated but not given one.

belleisabelle As I mentioned previously he has said if he did receive an honour he would want it dedicated to all the airmen who lost their lives and in particular to those in his squadron. Please remember he is not pressing for this honour himself, it is something that he was nominated for by others and the current campaign is the result of this being turned down.

he was doing what they all did ,all the young men and women who were sent into war didn't have a say they did it because they were told to.He s been awarded the appropriate "gongs" for his part ,thats all that should be done.Many didn't come back ,many camme back damaged mentally and physically and were left to get on with it with little support.Ms Vorderman should put effort into getting help for all those who live in poverty and the ones who live on the streets despite their military service ,the government should be ashamed of how these people are neglected.A knighthood wouldn't pay the bills ,a decent pension and help with integrating into cilivilian life is what should be happening

Update - the petition with over 200,000 signatures was delivered to 10 Downing Street last Thursday 26 January. Let's see what happens.
