marpau i lived on the German/ Dutch border and everytime i went to kuekenhoff to see the bulbs it was the worst Spring in years, i gave up and just bought a broucher instead!
Mumsy i had thousands of books and had to get rid after one of the 3 a towers beside my bed fell on me ! I vowed to only use the library after that !
ExaltedWombat i understand your thinking i really do, i never buy something without really needing it, have always put others needs before mine, have made monthly charity donations since i started work at 13. In fact every single pair of trousers in my wardrobe is over 10 years old and all of my coats and jackets have been new still with tags from charity shops. Maybe my DF thought it was my turn !
P.S spent £10.01 on reduced food in the co-op today and nearly filled the freezer, now thats my idea of a good time

I certainly wouldn't find this gift an embarrassment if it has been given with love. I can remember when we were getting married my mother in law gave me £50 and said she wanted me have something just for me. I thought that was lovely of her as I never had anything to spend on myself. Now, I would have a few bits for the house, a little shed and it would be lovely to get a new outfit

Lucky girl, I'm sure you deserve it. Take time to think about it and spend it on what you really want. How lovely that someone thinks so much of you.

I'm just looking at the thread about afternoon tea at Claridge's. Wouldn't you like to do that kind of thing?
I'd go for a trip or experience I'd not normally be able/willing to afford, as I'm not a big fan of " stuff".
What about paying for a course to learn a new skill?

Royal Ascot mentioned on another thread. Could that be a plan?

What a lovely gift. I'd definitely give some to my charities, and then perhaps a super day out in London - always wanted to go to the Royal Opera or see a good play. Actually Glyndbourne isn't too far from me. Dreams!!

what a lovely treat, I agree with the idea of a holiday or something nice to wear such as a lovely winter coat or some nice boots but why not just put the money away for the time being until you think of something. The benefactor cannot have expected it to be spent in a rush. Enjoy it.

A holiday or a lovely antique, or anything you wouldn't normally splurge on. A really lovely sheepskin coat?? A piece of jewellery?
The one thing I wouldn't spend it on personally is anything like spa days - I absolutely hate the thought of being massaged/mauled about/exposing my flab to innocent strangers,
I know I'm weird, though - so dds have told me when I've warned them never to get me spa/massage vouchers as a present!

Witzend gosh that made me laugh. Have thought of something else to spend a bit of the money on, i have about a dozen photographs of my parents and back to my GGGrandparents that have damage and i keep meaning to have them repaired so i shall do that and have an album made for each of my children.
