You need 2 hyphens before and after the words you want to strike through.

I don't think that's true, Annie - GNHQ staff are as capable of reading what's underneath the strike-through as anyone else.

No one's post would be 'protected' if it contained a personal insult.

I don't think it's rude, really, it can be used in an amusing way or even to cross out a swear naughty word (hush my mouth!)

But if it has a strike through it has been deleted . It still insults / mocks posters , I accept you like it Ana, I do not. Subtle it is not

I do Jalima, I feel sorry for any poster who has a reply with it included, we have different views in what is mocking and what isn't

I didn't say I 'like' the strike-through option, Annie, and I think you'd have to search very hard to find a post in which I've used it!

But that's what it is - an option. No one has to use it, and it seems most posters use it to jokingly put themselves down (as in, I've just eaten ten three pieces of chocolate and now feel guilty...)

Crikey people do see 'slights' where they don't exist I use strike-through in a way that adds a little comic relief to my sometimes
boring interesting posts.

Sorry, but I don't see what's particularly insulting about that. It just implies that 'going on' isn't quite strong enough to express what the poster feels.

Anyway, we're not going to agree so I'll leave it there.

It's not obvious on a small screen that 2 hyphens are needed at each side of the word being struck.
It took me ages to notice that.

As the person whose use of the offending strike through convention, I suppose there will be an outcry nobody will mind my use of the hashtag?
