Little things that have made you happy today

Congratulations to your grandson, nankate, just wonderful for him and of course his proud nan. This one might sound odd but today's little thing was having tonight's babysittting cancelled. An evening at home, feet up, tree lights on, candles alight, glass of wine - bliss.

My 5 year old GS was awarded 'Mathematician of the Week' award at school. He certainly doesn't get this skill from me.

This afternoon, oldest DGS ate one of my home made mince pies and pronounced it 'not as bad as I thought it would be' oooh, praise from him, I can tell you!

Had lunch at our favourite smart restaurant. Delicious, and the hotel and grounds so well decorated with logs fires and attentive staff. A lovely afternoon.

Went to a concert by the children at the tiny village school where I am governor. EVERY child was reading music and playing an instrument - how many schools can boast this? There is 20 minutes of playing each morning - ocarinas for the tinies and recorder for the older ones. Music is an integral part of their day, not an add-on for rich children. It lifted my spirits and was such a joy to see.

Heard from my 15 year old grandson by text, he's well again and I may see him again on Sunday...

I had a letter from my cousin in Ireland with news of a second grandson and a copy of their community calendar containing photographs of Malin Head where he lives. I was so happy to hear from him. Of all the relatives I grew up with, he is the one I have always been closest to.

Great news ga, which I'm sure I posted yesterday - where has it gone!!

Yesterday, I was extremely pleased when, having left a funeral in Kingston at 4.15 (to miss the worst of the traffic!!) we arrived home in Leicestershire........ at 9.15!!

Today I got my 3 1\2 stone loss award at Slimming World.

Delighted for you, GA, and for the dog lucky enough to have you and the WM to care for him.

Oh grannyactivist I am SO PLEASED for you. What a happy ending to your search for a dog. I really look forward to seeing a photo of him.

Thank you, thank you for your good wishes - we got the dog and he is just perfect - the best we've seen. He glued himself to my side and followed me around to such an extent that the kennel assistant joked he must have known me in a previous life. [Does ecstatic happy dance.]

I have to go back to meet him again tomorrow with The Wonderful Man and show our I.D., then we need a visit to check that we have a suitable home for him, then the vet has to give the dog the all clear......and then, finally, we can bring him home. And when we do I shall post a photo of him.

I was very saddened to hear the kennel assistant say that at this time of year they get a lot of old dogs handed in because people want to replace them with a new puppy for Christmas. Then in March there's a huge spike in calls from people who bought a dog for Christmas and want to get rid of it because they're too much work!

Seeing the wonder in a little ones eyes when she saw a Christmas display - and loving it myself.

Yes Danni we were getting worried that our party guests would be disturbed during the night or have bad dreams about giant wasps.

Just had a phone call from my late daughter's partner, sounds as if he is doing all right in spite of everything, cheered me up.

Not today, but yesterday. I left home in the dark at 6am on my long drive south for Christmas, and saw the sun rising around 8 over the hills of Lockerbie. The cloud formations were like enormous swirly spaceships and the colours were just magical. I had no one to share it with and so wanted to stop and take a photo; bit difficult on the M74

I have been looking for a new hairdresser because my now ex regular messed a simple dye job up....trying new hairdresser today who is doing half price for new customers!

I watched my grandson in his nativity play. Really cheered me up.

Sorry you missed out on the first dog - he sounded perfect. However, the second choice sounds lovely , especially as he has Labrador ancestry. Good luck this time and a happy Christmas to you and yours.

That's sort of how we ended up with one of ours and I woouldnt change him for anything. At 14 now he's brought so much joy into our lives.

Oh grannyactivist I really hope you are lucky this time and get the dog that you want. We got a puppy 5 years ago even though we knew she would change our life - and change it she has but for the better. We both adore her and can't imagine life without her.
