GN is no more for me. I have no idea why I stuck it for so long. I am sure there are some nice people on here, but every time I log in I see mostly the same old clique, perhaps I should have typed Coven.

Anya and her " cronies" who have not enough brain to be able to articulate something without resorting to profanities.

Elegran who is so terribly bland and boring, yet obviously spends alot of time madly googling an answer to almost every question here to make herself look clever...didn't work Elegran.

DapneBroon " Poetry", is that what it was? I wouldn't give up the day job Daphne!

I do not mix with People like the above in my real life, why on earth would I want to do it here?

Bye Bye. Enjoy your little cyber nit picking. I suspect if I were to read the posts in some months time that not a thing will have changed. YAWN

Goodbye Shanma, off you pop.
Nobody will miss you.
And don't expect a leaving present either. We won't be having a whip round.

However unhappy someone may be, the insulting comments to named people in the OP are not on.

Although a member from the very early days, I haven't been very active on GN lately, and am not particularly up to speed on any previous posts by Shanma , and she/he may well have a valid grievance, I really don't know, but I stand my view that the OP is offensive, nasty, rude and obnoxious.

Marmark1 Sun 04-Dec-16 08:35:10

She may very well be all of that Phoenix. But she's certainly in good company then isn't she.

gettingonabit Sun 04-Dec-16 09:59:00

Shanma has not broken any rules, has she? She's entitled to her opinion. Those posters she has highlighted for personal criticism are perfectly entitled to be be offended, and, within the rules, perfectly entitled to call Shanma on her comments.

But the rest of you piling in? No. Immature and unnecessary. And the behaviour of some of you IS more like that which you'd find amongst five year olds in a playground; a few ringleaders starting things off and the rest of you cheering on from the sidelines. Childish, cowardly behaviour.

Maybe shanma was simply looking for friendship and kindness. She certainly hasn't found that here.

Elegran Sun 04-Dec-16 10:10:30

Shanma said frequently that she could post anything she wanted - apparently she took a recent thread about the subject to have proved that "anything goes". However, she took exception when others felt just as free to say they disliked what she had said.

So I don't think anyone need defend her too strongly against those who found her OP unlikeable.

aggie Sun 04-Dec-16 10:36:39

I didn't find any of her posts friendly or kind

DaphneBroon Sun 04-Dec-16 10:47:47

I had hoped this thread would just slip off the bottom of the page, but it won't.
In answer to "not breaking any rules" I think gratuitous insults aimed at named individuals probably stretches the rules to breaking point.
The criticisms were pretty thin however, Anya and whoever her "cronies" are can't post without expletives confused ?
Elegran is bland and boring and has to Google everythingconfused ?
Well both of those are rubbish.
I write bad poetry? So true! tchgrin but so did McGonagall and he was quite famous (for it) -fat chance grin
Nobody who was named has taken personal offence, but if OP was looking for "kindness and friendship" as you say, could I refer you to a recent thread she started in which she expressed her worry about a challenging day ahead with travel problems, her fears about her upcoming mammogram and her husband who has PD. There were many many understanding and supportive replies (I remember rubylady I think as one) so no, OP has not met with hostility or aggression, despite her parting shot.

Jayanna9040 Sun 04-Dec-16 11:01:55

Oh Daphne, McGonagall. I knew you were a kindred spirit?

Swanny Sun 04-Dec-16 11:20:28

DaphneBroon I was so pleased to find your post Sat 03-Dec-16 11:44:20. I saw the OP yesterday morning but had a busy day so have just been catching up with GN. The first time I read a post of Shanma's I thought her arrogant and argumentative. HOWEVER, I later saw her post about her previous cancer treatment, impending mammogram and her husband's PD. I feel Shanma may be trying to hide so much stress and fear by putting up this stroppy front so that no-one gets close and her defences crumble.

If you are reading this Shanma I sincerely hope you have someone you can talk openly to, whether friend or stranger. Someone who will listen and support you. They may not have the answers you're looking for and probably won't have a magic wand either, but hopefully will offer their shoulder for you to lean on and their arms to keep you safe (((hugs)))

Penstemmon Sun 04-Dec-16 12:05:00

I have not noticed other posts by Shanma and do not intend to go looking. However, when I first saw this thread I simply thought Shanma was not really a grandparent but someone with a huge wooden spoon who enjoys creating a storm in a teacup.

Jalima Sun 04-Dec-16 13:02:05

Shanma has not broken any rules, has she? She's entitled to her opinion.
Not so sure about that as the OP seems to be breaking rules as did some of her other posts on other threads.

Lots of people have health issues, marital issues, family problems etc and sometimes a hurtful post especially one which is untrue can make one feel very upset and angry but Shanma seems to lash out wildly on here and on other threads at many posters who in fact are the ones who are friendly, kind and helpful.
confused

ninathenana Sun 04-Dec-16 13:24:12

I'm surprised this thread is still active.
I popped in to see what more people were finding to say.

Auntieflo Sun 04-Dec-16 13:58:58

Marmark1, if you meant what I think you meant, that was not neccessary, was it?

Nelliemoser Sun 04-Dec-16 15:18:30

Swanny there are a lot of Gnrs on here who have been through serious health issues, loss of close relatives and all sorts of awful stresses.
Many of them they do talk to GNrs to get some emotional support (even a virtual hug can feel a comfort) but they do not seem to go about directly insulting others.

Marmark1 Sun 04-Dec-16 15:29:54

Auntieflo, come again here, what wasn't necessary, the fact that she's in good company or the fact that most of the replies have been even nastier than she's allegedly been.Emm,maybe you haven't read them all? Like, now who's in cloud cuckoo land?

Swanny Sun 04-Dec-16 17:17:10

Nelliemoser Yes lots of GNers have been/are going through all sorts of stresses etc, myself included, but we all deal with things in our own ways. I am not saying it was ok for Shanma to say what she did in this OP; I am asking that we bear in mind her life may not be all hunky-dory flowers

kittylester Sun 04-Dec-16 17:50:52

The thing is, swanny, most people would say rather than being nasty. If they had read other threads they would know that we are generally kind and generous.

Jalima Sun 04-Dec-16 17:56:46

But the rest of you piling in?
But the posters named in the OP are not the only ones who have been attacked seemingly without reason on other threads, so, rather than piling in people may be defending themselves.

Rigby46 Mon 05-Dec-16 18:18:12

I am extremely saddened and somewhat shocked by this thread (with some honourable exceptions). There are some really nasty, snide, hurtful comments (I would have said redolent of the playground but the children I know wouldn't have been so unkind). Well done the pp who said two wrongs don't make a right. It doesn't take much searching to find out that there are a range of issues in Shanma's previous posts that make her vulnerable - so well done bullies.

Rigby46 Mon 05-Dec-16 18:21:10

And I don't want any lofty comments about being too Jew to know what I'm talking about - I'm not the only newish poster who resents that sort of response from
those who clearly regard themselves as 'Gransnet Royalty'by virtue of longevity of membership

Rigby46 Mon 05-Dec-16 18:21:54

Oh goodness - new not Jew shock

Elegran Mon 05-Dec-16 18:30:39

A lot of posters on Gransnet are vulnerable and have multiple family and personal troubles, Rigby46 but most manage not to claim that no-one cares about them when their posts about their problems have been sympathetically answered, not to insist on their right to make whatever comments they wish without anyone challenging them or responding in kind, and not to be childishly rude about other posters in their farewell post.

Ana Mon 05-Dec-16 18:34:23

And as this thread had (dis)gracefully slipped off the Active thread, what point was there in resurrecting it other than you having to have your say, Rigby46? hmm

Ana Mon 05-Dec-16 18:34:47

Active list.

wot Mon 05-Dec-16 19:25:35

Ana, ?
