Since moving to this new area (not far) I am being pursued by a lady who latched on to me many years ago and was a problem then. When we moved about 20 years ago she stopped getting in touch, but now we are back living nearer she rings up wanting to have a coffee and I am always putting her off. She has no sense of boundaries and I know from past experience that if I give her an inch she will take a mile and we will not get rid of her.
My DD was in the same class at school as hers and DD was persuaded into a sleepover there and came back and said please please find a way to get me out of doing it again. I do not think that anything seriously untoward happened - it was just an uncomfortable atmosphere.
This lady has a longstanding mental health problem(I suspect bipolar) and I appreciate that life has been hard for her. I have suffered from depression so understand some of it. This makes me feel even worse about putting her off, but I do not feel able to cope with letting her in to my life. For entirely inappropriate reasons she looks up to me because of OH's profession and also because I pursued a career in a field which is her hobby.
What would you do? - there are only so many times that the doorbell can ring when she phones. She is desperately needy and just wants a friend, but unfortunately she has poor social skills and sucks people dry.
