I'd rather have a short burst of foul language than a succession of snide remarks, too. There are too many of those bandied about, with their inherent unpleasantness inflicting more hurt than a brief swear word.
In recent months, a lot of veiled nastiness has been rife (and some open sneering) and I for one am quite sick of it. It has happened before, and will die down in its season, but it does not make Gransnet fun to be on. Surely that is why we post, to enjoy the company, not to put others down.
