Fastening on a poppy

I have crocheted poppies to sell for British Legion and there is a safety pin sewn on the back. No more lost poppies.

I also put mine on my bag, DH seems to have no trouble keeping his on his lapel though, in fact he would have it there all year if i didn't remind him

This year the poppy seller offered me the pin on ones or the ones that stick on, I avoid those now, as they don't stick well and fall off your coat, so last year I stuck it on a handbag, and when it came off it ripped off a strip of leather!

I have several of the enamel poppy brooches having bought one each year. This year there have been about 4 different styles. I usually get mine from the sellers in Asda.

I push the safety pin through the plastic stem before fastening it to my coat.

I got a simple lapel pin badge when I went shopping Sainsbury's. They asked for a £3 donation and it's well worth it to save all the hassle of losing the poppy, although as Tanith says, remembering to put it on the right coat is a problem. I have been out several times in the last few days and each time forgot to change it over.

I understand that they slightly change the poppy design each year so that no one cheats by using the same one again.

NotTooOld I always buy one or two for OH as he tends to lose them so they do get my donation. I can't remember where I bought the brooch.

NotTooOld the broaches are selling in M&S for £15.00 so mine covers me for the next 3 ys in my calculations but I will still drop money into the collection boxes when out and about,you can find them cheaper on line but may be a wee bit too late in the day now.

I can't keep a poppy on my clothing, so I attach one to my handbag and buy a new wristband each year. There are sometimes some in the boxes with the poppies or they can be purchased on line.

tanith - where can you buy those brooches, please? I'd like to have one. Just a thought, though, do people who own the brooches make a donation each year? I'm sure you do, tanith, but others may not???

I bought one of those small brooches trouble is I keep changing what coat I'm wearing and forget to move it..

I have this problem every year and usually end up leaving the poppy in a small vase above the cooker. This year, though, I think I may have cracked it. I got a small gold safety pin and forced the poppy stem through the tiny hole at one end of the pin, then I pinned it to my coat (sorry, Charleygirl!). It's worked so far. I was determined to wear one after FIFA told the football players they were not allowed to wear poppies.

This year, since I pinned through my poppy's leaf, it has stayed put, so far.

Mine is attached to the zip on my handbag. I did not want holes in my jacket or the poppy falling off. The fellow selling them did it all for me, seeing how useless I was.
