Anyone on Facebook?

I don't have Facebook or Twitter. My DH is on FB and gets messages from friends of friends reporting the most trivial rubbish e.g I am just arriving at M and S carpark etc etc! He thinks I should go on, have told him in no uncertain terms NO!

I had a similar problem. I had one suggestion so often I Google him. Turns out he worked for printing company where I used get raffle tickets from and I don't think he even sent me an Email!,

I opened a new email address especially for FB and problem sorted. Only suggestions noelle are linked to other connections.

I often think of going off FB but don't. I belong to rare chromo group of families. Did get v angry at one poster though and same evening did a major prune so only have those I can relate to.

On that poster who got me going - she posted so much abusive vitriol about people who voted for brexit. I voted to stay but don't think that many millions are (*&^) Her comments on others went too far, very personal and demeaning.

I often feel like leaving Mumsnet for the similar reason. I find many there extremely intolerant,lacking compassion and not people I'd like to hang out with.

I'm still there though as not all bad and recently got a brilliant book on a suggestion.

I think it's a generational thing too. Gransnetters are so lovely overall. More thoughtful and kind...

I'm with many on here that I love FB - it keeps me in touch with some family & friends I do not see now due to distance between us.

I use it a lot for messaging my DD as her life is so busy it's easier to send her a message than to ring & get the ansaphone - we do speak on the phone & I see a lot of DD & DGS .

I moved to a new area last year & found out that there is a local "What's on" page which is brilliant, I know what's on, pick up useful information etc. I am selective in which groups I belong to but would not like to be without it.

Like others I get friends requests but rarely accept them, just refuse & block future requests easy.

I love Facebook, I just ignore things I don't like and 'hide' info or posts I don't like.
It is nice to pm my daughters as they are on Fb more than text messages as signals can be poor.
So....love it !!

Oh, and I NEVER talk about politics anywhere !!!

Ok, great to read all these posts from people who really get on with FB, now I have changed my settings hoping for more privacy till I get used to FB as it is very new to me. I have a list of people popping up in Requests, this is fine as I can remove the total strangers, no problem. But under Notifications I have a longer list of "Do You Know xxxxxxx? These are people I do not know and can't find a way to delete them.
Will they disappear eventually? How do I get rid of those?
FB is more complicated than I thought and I might just go back to texting and email tbh.

Just ignore them mrsmopp as anncdw36 said. FB does bombard you with unasked for suggestions.

I am always amazed at those F B users who tell everyone when they are going on holiday! Am always careful to not mention name of my granddaughter

When we burgled some years ago, the police asked us if we were on FB and had we posted that we would be away. We hadn't put that information out for obvious reasons. On the rare occasion I do mention going away, it is AFTER the event.

I love FB, I keep in touch with family all over the world. If you get your settings right no one can bother you. I've joined a couple of groups where members have similar interests, it's great

I joined (if that is the word) Face-book some time ago but
rapidly became fed-up with it. It is both intrusive and invasive in fact typical, rude, American nosy parkering. I had to seek expert advice before I found out how to escape from it's clutches.
Totally un-necessary, Anything that can be done on Face-book
can also be done using E mail.

I use FB a lot to keep up with the children and as a group site for for our Ukulele Group.

I was on Facebook briefly but could only muster 9 'friends' which made me feel like billy nomates so as few of my friends were on fb and after concerns about privacy I decided to cancel. However I hover on my husbands fb so I have the best of all worlds.

I have aFB page and besides keeping in touch with family I also am in a couple of groups of Brits living in France. These are very useful as you can get so much info from them or ask questions - also we have a fairly local site for buying and selling - I advertised something for a friend of mine less than an hour ago and we have two people wanting to buy. ! Have made some friends also via the site a young couple who we sometimes babysit for!!

I like being able to nosey at see what family and friends are up to. I find it most useful for keeping in touch with people you don't see regularly, but who are still on the Christmas card list and in your thoughts now and again, such as ex-colleagues, and friends who live in faraway exotic places like Swindon I have 60 FB friends, which is small potatoes compared to most. One friend of mine, who has travelled the world and taught in various countries, has over 1800, which might explain why I am forever being asked whether I know an endless parade of Japanese people. Easy to ignore. A couple of my friends are very keen on posting daily inspirational messages that make me want to reach for the sick bag, so I hide their messages, and just "visit" them occasionally to see what they're up to. My OH thinks FB is the work of the devil, but isn't above asking me to pass on messages to our mutual friends

Yes. Have made mistakes in the past. But am in a private group of carers and x carers and have known them for many years. Also in touch with family members. Would miss it so much if it ended

I've had no problems with Facebook. I've been able to keep in contact with old friends, both in this country and abroad. I belong to a couple of book groups and a brilliant support group for the cancer DH has. This is where Facebook really comes into it's own. It is wonderful to have people from all over the country chipping in with helpful suggestions when you are really worried about something.
