could it be the bed?

Hi, I have recently joined gransnet and had a little 'look-see' at the forums. I noticed a forum about insomnia and I really can relate very much to this topic! My hubbie and I have separate bedrooms due to us both keeping one another awake ( we have just celebrated our Golden Wedding so all ok there) hoever, last night is one of many when I move from the double bed to the single bed in the spare room. One mattress seems too soft and the other seems too hard! I move from 2 pillows to one pillow, I change from feather to foam, to flat to plump and this is in the course of one night. By the time 3am comes I am hot and flustered. Hubby keeps saying to buy another bed, but we did that a few years ago and it didn't help. I am on sleeping tablets and used to take half but now I am up to one full tablet. I know I'm moaning but just wonder if others think it is the beds or just me getting older. Hi to everyone who reads this

Jordana
Have a look at wool pillows, they're lovely and are great at regulating body temperature.
Ours are from 'thewoolroom.com', we started off with 'classic wool' but have now splashed out on Kingsized Alpaca pillows (the pillows are king sized, they're not from Giant Alpacas!) and they're brilliant!
They're not the cheapest, but are worth every penny, a good night's sleep is priceless!

I recently bought a new bed from the store Mattressman and I was amazed at how many diffferent types of mattresses there are. I spent a long time discussing the types and finally found one I thought would suit me. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, not the usual pushy salesman types. The best bed I've had in my life. Worth every penny.

Just for information I got a medium to firm mattress with a plush topper built in. So it's very comfortable and soft but reasonably firm from the mattress. Mid range priced. Definitely recommend going there and not the big high street stores who charge double and more

I used to suffer with aches on the previous mattress which was quite new but too firm and the fabric was not as plush or the same quality. I love my new bed now

I wonder if refugees have these mattress problems?

I moaned to my husband about his snoring and he bought a device that gives him a rather unpleasant 'jolt' if he snores.

The funny thing (to me at least) is that, if I snore, that also gives him a jolt.

Years ago we used to sleep on a horsehair paliasse with a flock bed on top. There were not half as many bad backs then as there is now.
I have tried many mattresses over the years including an electric one but I cant say I was over excited with it.
I can only sleep on my back due to metal plates and pins in both hips that I have broken over the years and strangely enough I can get a decent sleep in my recliner that I can put in any position to suit me.
I very often sleep in the recliner now because the hip I broke in three places this time last year has not knitted together and with having a pin in the other one I cant sleep on my side so the recliner has been a Godsend to me. I have been offered a complete hip replacement BUT been told it could be very complex with all the metal and pins having to be removed before anything being done to replace the hip and there is no guarantee that I will be any better off. At my age which is 86 I will stick with the pain that I have and keep it in check with the doctors help and pain killers, plus my comfortable recliner.

get another double bed. Mattress toppers are fantastic. Get advice from John Lewis bedding department re firmness of mattress they are really knowledgeable.

Have you tried a silk duvet & pillows?

Try one of these pillows. I'm on my second one. They last for 10-15 years and are perfect if you want a cool head. I used to get lots of headaches, I blamed an over soft pillow. I hardly ever suffer from headaches now.
