Two 15 year old children have been convicted of murder an absolutely terrible crime , is this the result of a lack of discipline in the home /schools assuming they had a stable home.Or is it what Cameron called broken Britain [not that he done anything to fix it]. In the schools they used to teach good citizenship it was scrapped by the government because it was not considered a core subject. Should we have curfews for kids.

grannypiper do you mean Trinity Gay? She was killed in a shoot out between 3 men but you think it's her parents fault?

Should we not be addressing male violence, you know, the ones doing all the crime?

LumpySpacedPrincess

Men!!

LumpySpacedPrincess Wed 19-Oct-16 16:54:42

Yup.

Just seems weird to have a conversation about crime without mentioning the main perpetrators is all, seems logical if you are going to have a serious discussion about crime.

A curfew wouldn't have made a difference in this case. There wasn't a break-in before the murders.

Ana Wed 19-Oct-16 17:31:22

Well, to be fair, it was initially about why young people/children commit crimes as serious as murder.

I don't think a curfew is the answer - there will always be those who would view it as a challenge and go out anyway. The police have enough to do already.

vampirequeen Wed 19-Oct-16 17:40:59

Doesn't seem fair to curfew all children and teenagers for the actions of a few.

I am not suggesting one thing or other, I just think that what with all the stabbings of youngsters and gangs and kids involved in vandalism anti social behaviour and murder in this case something needs to be done. When Labour were in power Cameron used to say it was all done to "broken Britain". It was Mrs May when she was home secretary who cut the police numbers and told the police stop doing so many stop and search. Some of the replies are saying things for the sake of saying it or aiming at me instead of suggesting what might help or be the cause.

These two have minds that can never be mended by therapy or any other means. For the sake of others they must never be let loose in society again. Other people must never have to run the risk of coming into contact with them.

I don't understand the phrase "saying things for the sake of saying them" in this context Gardenman We are not in authority so what is the use of suggesting what might help. As for the cause, if that were known then maybe violent crime wouldn't be as prevalent.
I usually refrain from sticking my neck out but there I've said it. Now I'm out of here.

I don't think a curfew would have made any difference to these evil teenagers? If they show no remorse for murder were they going to abide by a curfew? I think not.

blue25 Wed 19-Oct-16 18:37:30

As one of the teenagers was at home when they committed the crime, a curfew would not have made a difference!

TriciaF Wed 19-Oct-16 18:38:40

Sadly, there will always be one or two people at the extreme ends of the different human characteristics. Usually it's a mixture of inheritance and early experience.
Anyone remember Mary Bell?

Ana Wed 19-Oct-16 18:40:18

And please can we not bring politics into this thread?

Two young people have committed a terrible crime and it's not down to who was/is in government, fgs!

gillybob Wed 19-Oct-16 18:43:37

Totally agree Ana politics plays no part whatsoever in what they did.

Anniebach Wed 19-Oct-16 18:48:41

No government can prevent these crimes,

DIOR, you know nothing of their minds

Christinefrance Wed 19-Oct-16 18:54:54

Women commit violent crimes too so let's all have a curfew ! !
Was the girl who committed the crimes related to the victims ? I had a feeling she may be.

Nelliemoser Wed 19-Oct-16 18:58:30

To put it simply, the sort of child who does that is very likely to have suffered severe abuse and neglect early in it's life. That leads to them never having a chance to experience trust and empathy and therefore can never really develop those emotions for themselves.
There may be some genetic influences as well. What an awful mess that leaves behind.

LullyDully Wed 19-Oct-16 19:36:07

What is needed is more psychological treatment and psychotherapy for young children, recommended by doctors, educational psychologists, teachers and social workers. Surely a child who has been. Involved in abuse deserves help rather than criticism. No "normal" youngster kills generally..

LumpySpacedPrincess Wed 19-Oct-16 19:42:45

Christine - women do not commit crimes at anywhere near the rate that men do, not even close. Male violence is a huge problem.

dollyjo Thu 20-Oct-16 10:05:54

blue25 - you say, 'one of them was at home.' That answers a question for me. I couldn't understand how this young couple had got into the house of the victims and no-one had reported them missing.I guess one of them lived with the victims and that is why they could watch TV, take a bath etc., after the crime.
TriciaF - Yes, I remember the harrowing tale of Mary Bell and I still have the report that was produced afterwards. It describes how she had visited the victim's mother more than once to express sympathy for her loss. I was a young social worker at the time and we were encouraged to read it. Mary went on to lead an acceptable life in adulthood.
Let us hope that there will be a future for these 2 children too although they will likely have to change their identities.

DIORisme167 Thu 20-Oct-16 10:11:52

Anniebach. True, I don't know their minds. My point is that no one truly does. Therefore, it is totally unrealistic to let them out of jail because they could do the same sort of thing to someone else. Would you take the responsibility of setting them free>

Im68Now Thu 20-Oct-16 10:21:30

Anniebach, Hows this for a statement !

The 2 who committed the killings are 15, Labour was in power for most of their informative years, 0-10.

Christinefrance Thu 20-Oct-16 11:21:09

Oh for goodness sake why does everything have to be blamed on a political party or the government.

Anniebach Thu 20-Oct-16 11:45:15

Iam68 , what rubbish

John Venables was born and commited that crime during the conservative years

Mary Bell born during a Tory government , commited the crime just after a labour government came to power

I repeat , no government can be held in anyway responsible for these crimes

willsmadnan Thu 20-Oct-16 12:36:36

In this case, Gardenman99 , if you google it (and i mean really google, not just read the media reports ) you will see a curfew would have done nothing to prevent this double murder. I will say no more.
