When a child is born by Johnny Mathis, he was my mums favourite singer, (she passed away, 6years ago this December,) the day she passed I had to get out of the house, got a bus in to Eccles town centre, and went into a charity shop, to see a friend, this song came on the radio, and I just cried, I can't listen to it now, by him, without the tears. Country and western song Daddy's Hands has me weeping "buckets" no matter how many times I hear it. Welling up here just thinking about it.

Tears rolling down my cheeks as I read your comments! There are a couple of hymns that always set me off too. I remember my mother singing them at the top of her voice whilst hoovering, when she was pissed off with my father. They had a difficult relationship, nowadays they would have gone their separate ways and been happy.

Billy Joel's "Leningrad" moves me the most.

Sentimental songs I can cope with, but for my dad's funeral, MY husband (who loved my American dad very much, as he had lost his when he was in his 30s) asked for:

I have the CD of the Irish Tenors as we first heard it in the 90s after seeing that concert on TV. I know all the words by heart and it gets me every single time. It will be played at my husband's funeral some day along with, of course, Abide With Me. His sons have instructions should I go first. (Welsh DH)
