A bit random for (relatively) early on a Monday morning, but I've been noticing some amazing Gransnet names & would love a few explanations. Mine? Just signed up when a very new Nanny & was, & still is, very thrilled to be one!

The name of one of my cats, never more than a couple of feet away. He nearly had a nervous breakdown last night when I went to the loo and shut the door on him!

NonnaW Mon 10-Oct-16 12:43:32

Mine is boring and unimaginative. I'm not Italian, just like their word for grandmother, followed by the first letter of my name. Wish I could have thought of something really original!

Tizliz Mon 10-Oct-16 10:42:01

Mine was my father's nickname for me

Katek Mon 10-Oct-16 10:36:27

What about Wee Eck daphne? Can't forget him! DS discovered in his teens that you can sing 'Oor Wullie, Fat Bob, Soapy Soutar and Wee Eck' to any Scottish dance band tune and on the big chord at the end you sing 'and his bucket'! Try it, it works!!

Wobblybits Mon 10-Oct-16 10:33:35

Mine is what we used to shout when I drove an Age concern bus down a particularly bad unmade road. "Hang on to your Wobbly Bits"

Maranta Mon 10-Oct-16 10:14:23

Mine is the name of a houseplant, currently on my kitchen windowsill. Like me it needs frequent drinks....tea in my case in case you were wondering!

DaphneBroon Mon 10-Oct-16 10:08:09

Soapy Souter might be a bit close to home for me!! wink
Who you calling "fat"? grin

kittylester Mon 10-Oct-16 10:08:04

Mine is a childhood nickname and where I live - sort of.

annodomini Mon 10-Oct-16 10:06:15

What about Oor Wullie's pals, Fat Bob and Soapy Souter?

As for my name, I think it speaks for itself!

DaphneBroon Mon 10-Oct-16 09:58:38

Help ma boab, did I no say Horace? He must've been awa reading a book! blush

Lona Mon 10-Oct-16 09:56:05

My (third) name is because I'm not very good at joining things, but glad I joined GNet though!

Marelli Mon 10-Oct-16 09:52:55

My name comes from parts of the names of my children, in age order.

Marelli Mon 10-Oct-16 09:50:59

Loved the Broons and Oor Wullie, DaphneBroon (Daphne and Horace were my favourites)! grin

DaphneBroon Mon 10-Oct-16 09:43:53

If ye ken Auchenshoogle ye'll ken the Broons, Maw, Paw, Granpaw, Hen, Joe, my more glamorous sister Maggie, the twins (ae twin and the ither yin) my wee brother Oor Wullie and the Bairn and there's me.

(My late father started writing for the Sunday Post and The Bulletin - ask your Granny- when still in his teens, this is in memory of him.)

Charleygirl Mon 10-Oct-16 09:40:05

tanith my name is also the name of my last beautiful cat.

Maggiemaybe Mon 10-Oct-16 09:30:30

I wanted Maggiemay as that's what my dad called me (and sang to me), but as it was taken, I had to add to it. There are enough Maggies this and that on Gransnet now to form a hockey team, but I've never come across the original Maggiemay smile

tanith Mon 10-Oct-16 09:24:00

Mine has a Welsh connection and was the name of a beloved cat I had many years ago.

cornergran Mon 10-Oct-16 09:23:02

I have a tendency to hide in corners. blush.

Katek Mon 10-Oct-16 09:05:39

Mine is just abbreviation of my middle name and a random letter! Not very exciting.

Alima Mon 10-Oct-16 09:04:33

I never got that Teetime, always think of tea and cake!

Greenfinch Mon 10-Oct-16 09:03:25

Mine is part of my address. Not very original !

Teetime Mon 10-Oct-16 08:52:49

I play golf!

hildajenniJ Mon 10-Oct-16 08:33:54

Mine is the start of my email address. I wish I'd put more thought into it too!

BBbevan Mon 10-Oct-16 08:33:50

Mine,a bit of my initials, a bit of my Welsh heritage and a nod to GDs

downtoearth Mon 10-Oct-16 08:22:57
