Smart meters

We had smart meters for gas and electricity fitted a couple of days ago, and now I have a little display in the kitchen which tells me what we're paying for fuel at any minute of the day! I've become fixated on finding out what things are costing: the spotlights in the kitchen cost 2p/hour - I switch those off and I've still got 2p/hour registering, so then there is a hunt for what is still on and finally find that it's the heated towel rail. Heart attack when I switch the kettle on - DH and I now put just enough water in that we need. DH is now switching lights off when he leaves a room. OK, we'll settle down soon, I know, but it's been really interesting to find out exactly what things cost.

We've requested one. My friend has one in her kitchen and I'm fascinated by it. She'll say things like 'oh its only £1.80. Are you warm enough!'. Can't wait to get ours!

We've had one fitted as well, Badenkate - and it's fascinating, isn't it! The chap that fitted it told us that we'd get a surprise when we put the kettle on, so like you, we don't overfill it now. He advised that smaller amounts at a time should be put in the tumble dryer, too. That's not working out as expensive as I thought, thankfully. The microwave's a bit like the kettle, but I really only use that for reheating, anyway.
It shuts itself off at bedtime, too smile!

I've had one for about six months and am still fascinated by the little monitor, though I don't think it has had a huge influence on my consumption.
