numberplease Tue 27-Sept-16 08:51:51

I`ve already told him he can come home, but my granddaughter, who works in social assessment, says that before he does, someone will check the house out to see if it`s viable. he wants to see his cat, desperately, and he`ll only be able to do that if he comes home. But I`m scared.

annsixty Tue 27-Sept-16 09:03:51

Do not even consider it until the care package is firmly in place and start your campaign today.

Elegran Tue 27-Sept-16 09:18:48

number When the care package is in place and your GP and district nurses etc are alerted, you will get plenty of help, but be warned - all the help in the world doesn't take away the work that you will have to do. They will not be there all the time.

But if that he wants, then you will do it. I did. Best wishes.

Judthepud2 Tue 27-Sept-16 09:29:20

Number I am so sorry to hear about your DH. You must both be so sad and worried. It does sound as if you will need a lot of support when he comes home, so make sure you fight hard to get it. At the moment, it sounds like he still needs some sort of nursing care, not just TLC.

Will be thinking of you and hope you can still come into the kitchen for your own dose of TLC.

loopylou Tue 27-Sept-16 09:32:35

Oh dear number, isn't it difficult when you want to do your best but....... I did it for MIL and it was hard but really I wouldn't have had it any other way. ??

My life's increasingly spiralling like a tornado trying to juggle ancient parents and family hence staggering for a dose of normality that's definitely not to be found chez moi ?

DM remains in NH, barely able to walk six steps, DSis1is still in hospital following surgery for a brain tumour and ddad and not so DSis2 is living in LaLaLand assuring very elderly DF that 'Mum's coming home and all's hunky dory, she's back to normal and can carry on as if nothing's happened'' and because I'm DD non grata he's believing everything she says. ???????????
It's a disaster in the making.

Anyway, I need a break so I hope you don't mind me hunkering down for a stiff wee dram and is there any cake left?

Judthepud2 Tue 27-Sept-16 09:43:57

Loopylou here is a bit of cake to go with your not too wee dram! ? You sound in need of a little sit down in Soop's warm and relaxing kitchen.

numberplease Tue 27-Sept-16 09:51:56

Loopylou, you sound like you are also in need of some TLC, many hugs to you.

NanaandGrampy Tue 27-Sept-16 09:55:44

Morning all !!

I was reading a thread about what people get from GN and it made me chuckle that the only 2 threads named ( either good , bad or indifferent) were the political threads ( of which there have been many) and Soops Kitchen - of which there is only one !!

Long may the kitchen last I say !

Sam is enjoying the cooler weather and had a great walk with Grampy yesterday. then sitting with me last night I noticed a huge tangle in his ear ( Sam not Grampy smile) . Ears are the bane of my life on our little spaniel so we had to resort to scissors in the end as he had a large prickly burr firmly knotted in !

I'm afraid his current 'do' is now looking a bit lopsided !!

Lovely picture Old Goat all waiting patiently for their treat.

I am a big spaniel fan Nonna so lovely picture of your two. Sam would round at the trio being the small version {smile]

Can't beat a bit of softplay * Nellie* ...Grampy has got quite good at it too as someone always needs rescuing !!

Oh number how sad . I am so sorry to hear that news. Is there no way you can take Mia in? Surely there are exceptions to every rule and the comfort of a pet is well known. Is there a chance of a move to a hospice. I know our local one personalises care and both cats and dogs are allowed to visit .

Loopylou offering cake, alcohol if required and a virtual hug. What a complex and draining situation . Don't forget to take care of yourself too.

Off to hug Grampy !!

xx

Judthepud2 Tue 27-Sept-16 10:23:35

N&G don't mention spaniels and burrs! Our little delight galloped through a woodland full of burrs and was literally covered in them, to the extent that she looked like one huge mobile burr! Impossible to groom out. It had to be the scissors. She was a sad sight at the end of it all. She is a working cocker with short body hair so that wasn't too bad but ears, tail and all her beautiful feathers were much reduced in size! Still not back to normal. It hasn't slowed her down any!

Lona Tue 27-Sept-16 10:29:33

loopylou flowers

Bellanonna Tue 27-Sept-16 10:42:39

Ahhhh

Bellanonna Tue 27-Sept-16 10:44:19

loopy. So sorry?

Bellanonna Tue 27-Sept-16 10:44:44

Ahhh comment re gorgeous dog

NonnaW Tue 27-Sept-16 11:36:31

So sorry to hear of your problems number & loopy, hearing that sort of thing definitely makes me count my blessings. Hope you can get the help you need.

Know exactly what you mean re spaniels and the burrs - it's a design fault in their ears! I think my2 feel their purpose in life into gain as many as possible on each walk.

We are off on holiday tomorrow so today is a last minute freezer-fest, trying to use as many of the tomatoes in the greenhouse as possible. DH has made passatta, I made soup, and after looking on Google, I have attempted freezing some whole. Will now roast the rest and freeze for soups etc. It will either work or no t, but it's better than leaving them to rot!

DaphneBroon Tue 27-Sept-16 11:45:02

Just today's latest cold call story.
I pick up the phone with my usual friendly "Hello" and a male voice asked "Mr or Mrs Broon?
I replied "Which do you think?" To which he (cheek!!) said "Why so rude?!!"
Where do I start?
Prat.

loopylou Tue 27-Sept-16 11:53:44

Thank you all, i'm truly thankful there's a refuge here.
Dd is talking about having a dog when she buys somewhere to live and we'll dog-sit when she's abroad, sort of a 'doggy timeshare?'.
That's something to really look forward to! I love all the canine photos, really cheering, thank you!

Tizliz Tue 27-Sept-16 13:15:19

Sorry db and numberplease hadn't had my second cup of tea.

soop Tue 27-Sept-16 13:15:38

Well...I've just returned from the care home visit. During the course of my conversation with M who thinks that she's 96 next week...the carer has told me that she in in fact 92 at the moment. The birthday card that I've ready for her needs careful alteration. wink

I can hardly believe my eyes. There are so many messages to read and photographs to ooh and aww over. Please be patient as I endeavour to catch up with you lovely lot grin

soop Tue 27-Sept-16 13:36:54

NonnaW The spaniels are adorable. They shall have a special place to relax alongside all the other pets. Never fear, all creatures behave beautiful in our virtual kitchen.

Galen Naturally, a lady of your social standing must keep up appearances. I was thinking that a pearl tiara (with a mere hint of diamond bling) would fit the bill nicely. grin

anno our Rowan is laden with red berries. Our garden is buzzing with Chaffinch and Tits. We also have a resident Wren and Robin. Occasionally we see a Blackbird.

oldgoat Oscar is taking advantage and wishes to remain "in charge" during your absence. I have to add...Boggit is BEAUTIFUL. I shall not show Rory. He wouldn't be amused.

Charleyg Tyke!!!

NellieM Sit yourself down. Footstool at the ready. Tartan rug across your knees. I shall make you a brew

Dearest number I've just this minute read the update on your husband's condition. Without the appropriate care package there is no way that you'll be able to cope with the stress and strain of looking after D. This is a bloody horrible time. I really would like to help you. From here, there's no way that I can do so. I'm sending my love. flowers

soop Tue 27-Sept-16 13:45:52

number Elegran is very wise. Her advice is sound.

loopylou Keep coming into our kitchen because we do care for you and, if you need to offload, we'll listen. flowers

DpahneB I do wish that I'd been a fly on the wall. You do make me chuckle.

soop Tue 27-Sept-16 13:52:18

Hello NanaandGrampy...hmm I haven't visited that particular thread.

As a child I had a spaniel called Bruce. He was prone to serious ear infections. One day I returned home to be told that he'd moved to live on a farm. I often wondered if that so...

I'm about to follow suit...I'm going to hug MacSporran

annsixty Tue 27-Sept-16 14:31:49

I remember children always being told their pets had gone to live on a farm where they would be very happy when they had been p.. t. s...p.

soop Tue 27-Sept-16 15:02:19

annsixty Kinder, for sure. smile

numberplease Tue 27-Sept-16 16:19:28

Thank you all xx

Galen Tue 27-Sept-16 16:33:49

number I've missed what's wrong with dh, but from what you're saying at the moment, there is NO WAY you'll cope without a good care package in place.
Could you not arrange with the staff for him to see the cat? ( perhaps in a side room)
