soop luckily the person from La la land herself thankfully rarely pops in to greet us with her hurtful comments. We are absolutely fine as we are.

I have caught the cleaning bug this afternoon- thankfully it is not the full blown version but still nasty. At least my kitchen will see a result.

Now that I have sat down for a rest, I can feel the autumnal breeze and I do not think it will be long before the heating is switched on for an hour or so in the evenings.

I moved to London from Scotland when I was I think around 23 years old and until then I had rarely taken off my cardigan during the summers. One had to be fit and hearty to sit on the beach at St. Andrews in a swim suit, never mind paddle or swim in the sea. I have had many hot summers in London, this year being one of them.

We have our heating on low for the first time today. H sits around a lot and feels the cold.

Charleyg Although the sun is shining, there is a nip in the air. I like autumn. I'm not so lively in hot weather. I like the colours and woody/bonfire smells of autumn. I also like sitting beside a log fire. We haven't had one so far. Maybe in another month. We do have under floor heating. Rory approves.
MacSporran is mowing the grass. Rory is officiating watching through half-closed eyes.

annsixty I shall be visiting the Care Home ladies tomorrow. From the moment I arrive, I need to peel off layers of clothing. The rooms are really warm. The residents (like your husband) move around very little. M always takes my hands in hers and says...'you're so cold' because both my hands and feet rarely warm up. Whereas the rest of me roasts.

We had our creative writing group meeting at the local Golf Club which has lovely woodland around it. It was very noticeable that in the last two weeks the trees had begun to turn. My bronze maple turns a darker bronze before becoming bright red and shedding its leaves in the first gale.

soop Tara would just love underfloor heating! She only likes the hard flooring upstairs and down when it is stifling hot during the night. She is frightened of my portable fan.

I am not sure I would like to visit the home when the room is so hot but as you said, the ladies are all sitting in their chairs doing little exercise.

annsixty yes I can understand the reason why you have your heating on low.

Is it not too soon to be cooking the chicken for Sunday?!!

anno This morning I took a photo of a Rowan tree with pale gold berries. Ours has red berries. The Maple never fails to put on a good show as autumn progresses.

Just popping in for a look at the smart new kitchen. I'm afraid that * Oscar * may not be allowed in, though. He's on holiday with his elderly doggie cousins in Scotland while we are away and has been giving them a hard time. He's been nicking their toys, sleeping in their beds and desperately trying to get the old Border collie to play by bouncing at her and barking. She has given him many warning growls but he still persists. Could end in tears!
He also tried to get DS's cat, Boggit, to play with him but he just got a very haughty look from puss who, thankfully, has fully recovered from his accident and is looking magnificent again.

Many thanks for the welcome messages. Even more so for welcoming the dogs - you'd maybe change your minds if you met them! Jud I think all spaniels are mad, or maybe it's us for taking them on.

soop I won't be taking the tiara this year, I need to get a new one as I've already worn the current one on Queen Victoria and it doesn't do to be seen wearing the same old thing again. Does it?

That's a spectacular rowan, soop. I have one with yellow berries but my neighbour offered to cut it back for me last year and went a bit too far. I think the tree has taken umbrage! The birds don't go for the yellow berries until every last red berry has gone - then the blackbirds monopolise it.

Aww Nonna Is the little one a working cocker? They are lovely.

I love all of these animals and the cat is gorgeous. I am glad that I do not have to brush him!

All of the dogs would be putty in our kitchen- they need lots of love and cuddles, that is what Rory gets and look how he has turned out!!!!!

She is Jud, and the older dog is a springer. Poor boy, his life has never been the same since Purdey came into the house and took over!

Just been to see the Grandsons today. No 1 is four tomorrow no2 is 17mnths. As it was foul weather DD took them to soft play. DGs2 is getting very good at working out how to climb on these things despite not being very tall.

Two extremely tired but happy little boys taken home.
I would love a soft play area for grans.

Well, we had an appointment to see the surgeon this morning, at his request. He told us that they`ve done all they can, there`s no more that can be done, seeing as they can`t operate. They were taking the food down today, as it`s not going down properly and is just accumulating in his stomach and making it more and more distended. He`ll still be getting the fluids and painkillers, but that`s all. Then he went and told David himself, now he wants to come home, doesn`t want to stay there, but unless there`s a care package in place, I just know I can`t cope on my own, especially with Lynne how she is, but he`ll be upset if he can`t come home, he wants to see Mia, he`s missing her. If they can allow pat dogs in hospitals, why not pat cats?

number I wish there was something we could say or do to help. It must be so very hard for you seeing your DH like that and not know what to do (((hugs))) Take care of yourself

(((hugs))) number. That must be so distressing for you. Is there any chance of your husband being able to have a care package at home?

You know we are here for you, at least virtually and I hope you have lots of real support too.

numberplease I am sorry to hear things are stil so hard. Much as you might like to agree to what your DH wants (and I am sure you are torn) there is no way this could happen at present so please do not let misplaced guilt push you into an unwise move. He won't be thinking it through, men especially in hospital, rarely do as they have NO idea of the difficulties. Could you speak to someone from occupational therapy to have a full home assessment? There is someone in Stroke Units like that so must be available for non-stroke patients too. This sounds harsh, but it is clear DH needs ful nursing care not just "personal" care so stand firm. The hospital may be keen to move him on (if so, shame on them) but you and we know this is not going to be viable as things stand. So sorry to be depressing realistic.

So sad for you number that helpless feeling must be awful for you. I had a phone call on Sunday evening from a friend who had come out of hospital on Fridsy. She had had an op last Tuesday on her foot and is in plaster and incapacitated for 6 weeks. She came home to a care package in place, free for 6 weeks and then she makes a contribution if she needs it after that. She got a cancellation and was only asked on Momday if she wanted it. My point being the package was put in place in a few days.
She has carers in 3 times a day . If it can happen in Nottingham it should happen everywhere. Her 2 children are very vocal, articulate and " know their rights" get your family firmly on board number
