I saw a Gorgous thick cotton crochet type winter pull on hat , perfect with the wraps I wear so bought it,

I did not expect to look like the female modelling it, long fair hair etc, but how come I look like Benny Hill ?

I look like a witch in any hat !

Hats hate me, and that goes for fascinators too I look like a decaying bird has emerged from my skull
I long to be elegant and be able to wear anything but it ain't gonna happen!

That sounds GREAT Nanna58 - with your plaits round your ears you'd look like Princess Leia from Star Wars!! grin

Nanna58 Sun 25-Sept-16 23:35:43

Thanks for heads up re what my ear muffs were made of, didn't know, so they are binned. HOWEVER have new idea - watched Victoria tonight , maybe loopy plaits round the ears might be way forward!

Ooh [Elegran] what a thought! But then only gravity would allow me to fall into a sports car and since I would never get out again I reckon I'm safe as I just wouldn't risk it! grin

I love wearing hats and scarves and don't worry what anyone else thinks, I just enjoy them all. smile

Elegran Sun 25-Sept-16 23:18:06

Don't forget what happened to Isidora Duncan and her trailing scarf!

Rosiebee Sun 25-Sept-16 22:53:26

As a paid up gently ageing hippy, I love trailing scarves and quirky hats and have a great weakness for unstructured coats and cardigans. However, as a somewhat rotund 5 foot 3 inch, 64 year old, when I look in the mirror all I see is a vision of a bag lady. Doesn't stop me going out though. What's the worst that can happen????hmm

I'm not a womanly shape, big hands, big feet, unfortunately pear shaped so big derriere too! I was very slim when young, now my DHL has 50% extra free. I don't suit hats, dresses or anything remotely feminine, in my opinion!

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 25-Sept-16 09:51:48

Michael Kors uses real fur, so a complete no-no for me.

Nanna58 Sun 25-Sept-16 09:46:19

Have used posh ear muffs to good effect.aA young trendy friend bought me a Michael Kors pair for Xmas, and they keep your ears toasty , you can still have hair on show , and it does'nt make it flat. They were fur same colour as my hair , so subtle , not animal shaped or owt !

Galen Sat 24-Sept-16 22:30:48

They won't fit on my hair

Maggiemaybe Sat 24-Sept-16 22:25:40

Ah, same as me, Deedaa. Pea on a drum syndrome grin

Deedaa Sat 24-Sept-16 21:00:32

DD always looks stunning in hats. Not that she often wears one, but we go and try them on in shops. I, on the other hand, look hideous. Ive got a knitted one I wear if it's REALLY cold. My main problem is my big head, which means that even hats that might be passable perch on top of my head and look ridiculous.

whitewave Sat 24-Sept-16 19:54:42

Doesn't do much for ones coiffure though

whitewave Sat 24-Sept-16 19:53:42

I walk the dog on the top of the Downs in the middle of winter and don't give a toss what I look like in a hat -I would freeze to death without one grin

rosesarered Sat 24-Sept-16 19:50:04

It's a theory..... Bloody iPad.

rosesarered Sat 24-Sept-16 19:49:35

I think, from reading this thread, that you can't all look bad in hats ( too many) so perhaps ab and everyone else here all look absolutely fine. It's a theory! smile

Legs55 Sat 24-Sept-16 19:49:21

I have loved reading the posts - I too can't wear a hat without looking ridiculous. I wear a baseball cap in summer as I can put my hair through the back instead of tying it back. I have bought a "beanie" for winter but sure I'll look like Compo (Last of the Summer Wine) grin

Thanks for the laughs Ladies, good to see we've all got a sense of humour & that there are others who can't wear a hat smile

wot Sat 24-Sept-16 19:39:42

It's so funny! Why don't we all post pictures of us looking awful??!!

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 24-Sept-16 17:18:18

Victoria I posted a link to one at 10.19 today.

Victoria08 Sat 24-Sept-16 17:15:07

I think there is a you tube film demonstrating how to wear scarves in different ways.

I found it interesting, but can't remember them without trawling all through and reminding myself.

In the end, too much trouble.

But do have a look. You might get a few tips.

gillybob Sat 24-Sept-16 17:08:18

Oh it's dresses with me . According to DD I look lovely (chance would be a fine thing) but the lack of confidence I feel when wearing one makes me stand and act all funny .

WilmaKnickersfit Sat 24-Sept-16 17:04:45

Whew wot! grin

OK. If we're all saying we look awful in hats, just who are all these women we see at weddings looking wonderful? confused

Blinko Sat 24-Sept-16 16:25:48

...or a scarf.

Blinko Sat 24-Sept-16 16:25:11

Sorry, slightly off kilter in that it isn't about a hat...
